    Description

    Hello fellow WWOOFers,

We live in the south of France, in Montady, a charming little village located between Béziers and Narbonne. The climate here is Mediterranean, rather dry and very sunny.

I live in a family home. My three adult daughters no longer live with me, but they visit regularly, which always adds a bit of atmosphere (and delicious home-cooked meals).

We cultivate about a hundred olive trees in a family-run, amateur way, using organic and sustainable farming practices. We also have a few beehives located near one of our olive groves and the vegetable garden. We would like to emphasize that we are not professionals.

Depending on the season, the activities offered can vary: working in the olive groves or around the property, installing fences, clearing brush, pruning shrubs, weeding, sweeping leaves, maintaining outdoor spaces, working in the vegetable garden, tidying and reorganizing the farm buildings, or even small jobs like sanding shutters, painting, or other tasks.

Our property is located at the top of the village, at the foot of the 12th-century medieval tower of Montady. The house is built with stones from the old castle and is situated in a listed historical monument, giving it a truly unique setting.

Several remarkable sites are within walking distance:

    - the drained Montady pond (created in the 13th century),
    - the Gallo-Roman oppidum of Ensérune,
    - the Canal du Midi.

The sea and the Montagne Noire hills are nearby. We can drop you off at the beach, or you can reach it in about an hour by bike.

    Nearby towns:
    - Béziers — 8 km
    - Narbonne — 20 km
    - Sète — 30 km
    - Montpellier — 70 km

We look forward to meeting you

As a typical southern French, I speak French and some English.
I would also be happy to suggest walks and places to visit in the surrounding area during your free time.
For my part, I practice a little yoga and play the guitar. I am a music lover, especially jazz and blues.
I have only recently started cooking but can prepare some regional dishes to share.
I am an amateur guitarist (jazz, blues).

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for willing hands to help us with the upkeep of the property : pruning, picking, fencing, gardening, raking leaves, strimming, general light maintenance and various odd-jobs. No particular skills are required, as we do most of it ourselves, we just need help with a bit of everything. A lot of the time we work outdoors but some of the time is also spent clearing and sorting the barns.

You will have your bedroom and bathroom ajoining our house with access to a kitchenette.

I can't promise to cook everyday, but I'll try my best to cook something regional as I've only recently started cooking. You're welcome to give a helping hand and also prepare one of your specialties if you would like.
Anyhow we'll work something out, maybe you can give me a list of what you'd like me to buy or we can go on a food shop together.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Montady is only 6 kms from the town of Béziers which offers transport (bus or train) to many nearby interesting places to visit on a day-outing : Montpellier, Nîmes, Narbonne, Carcassonne, Perpignan... not to mention the lake of Montady which was dried-out in the 13th century in the shape of a cartwheel ("Etang de Montady"). If you like walking, there are plenty of trails setting out from the house following the Midi Canal, through vineyards and garrigue. We benefit from a Mediterranean climate : dry and sunny most of the year (but can be quite cold in winter).
