Description
We'd like to welcome you to the point where 4 Southern French regions meet! Our spacious, partly medieval house with 4.2 acres (1.7 ha) of land is bordering the river in the natural canyon reserve of the Ardèche region. We look out over the silhouette of Aiguèze - classified as one of France's most beautiful villages - in Gard. Also the Drôme and Vaucluse regions are a short bike ride away. Whilst being in the nature, we're not too remote either, with public transport, such as bus stops in the village, and a train station at 8km away (with a 40 mins direct connection to Avignon). The center of the village is at walking distance from our house, and offers commodities such as a bakery, butcher, bars, restaurants, tennis and padel courts, mini golf, river beaches, swimming, kayak rental, ...
About our family:
We are a French/Dutch couple, in our early forties, with one child of primary school age. We recently moved from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, to the southern French village of Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche. We are curious, open-minded, and love meeting (new) people, creativity (we're in a former artists residence), sports and nature, and local and organic sourcing. From harvesting a handful of raspberries in our small front garden, we're now on a spacious land where we plan to grow fruit trees, and create a vegetable garden/food forest, from the wish to be more self sufficient.
About you - and your Workaway experience:
First of all, we like good vibes and creating valuable time for everyone. We are more than happy to help you exploring the beautiful nature around us, by providing our kayaks and bikes to do so. More than just helping each other, it’s about sharing good moments, stories, and inspiration together.
If from abroad, a stay at our house could help improve your French or Dutch (we also speak English and Spanish) and share your own language and culture - we would for example love to improve our (Brazilian) Portuguese, Italian and German. :-)
Workwise, we could mainly use help in the kitchen - we love food but are not the best chefs. On the side, you could help us on the land - from removing invasive plants up to preserving the surrounding wall, creating pathways, or help preparing the vegetable garden/food forest.
So, and this is very important, our family is looking for motivated, easy going, hardworking, convivial and respectful people. Please be honest in your description, to prevent disappointment and complication of everyone's work.
Few more important things:
- Please make sure you have full medical cover
- Bring working shoes or boots (that are easy to take off!)
We'd like to know if you have read this far, so please include the phrase "start from here" at the start of your application.
Hope to hear from you!

Accommodation
Sleeping:
We have an independent, large bedroom available that has its own shower and toilet - with 2 single beds for max 2 Workawayers at the same time.
Eating:
We love food - but are not the best chefs. We are looking for someone who is experienced with cooking, and likes to prepare a tasty, nutritious and various (early-evening: 19pm) meals for our family of 3 and the Workawayer(s). For lunch, we usually take something simple, like a soup, salad, or sandwich. We prepare a good breakfast for everyone. One day yoghurt and muesli, the other bread, toast, eggs, oatmeal porridge or -pancakes.
What else ...
There is lots to do! Just in front of the house, there is the river Ardèche, which is great for swimming, kayaking, fishing, paddleboarding, etc. As we are at the entrance of the Gorges de l'Ardèche, there are plenty of options for bike rides, hikes, horse riding, canyoning, climbing, (world famous) caving, etc! Also in terms of culture, there is lots to see and to, from winetasting, up to a city trip to Valence, Avignon, Aix en Provence, or Marseille.
