Description
I'm from Oregon, USA. I've been living in Brazil for over 25 years. I am vegetarian and love Brazilian culture and music. I have a degree in organic agriculture and permaculture and am passionate about alternative Food and Education. I need help with my eco-guest house with marketing and some web site help, new pictures etc. Sometimes I have small projects and improvements, and minor maintenance, a new building project or some new permaculture techniques to do as well. I'd love to put in a clay oven! I enjoy having a meal together and getting to know the Workawayers and their stories and am available to share what I know. I live on site but travel often. If you are interested in a long stay and you are a good fit, I am also looking for long-term helpers (stipend included) starting in Ago/2024. Contact me and we can talk about it!
There are three houses of differing sizes on the property, a large yard with fruit trees and an organic garden on site which always needs help. My houses were built with some ecological principals (solar power, recycled wood, ecological sewage system). I provide a suite in one of the hotel rooms (or a shared annex reserved for volunteers) and basic food. We are close to local attractions, and very centrally located in one of the best neighborhoods in the city (quiet, safe and convenient).
I can only accept singles. Sleeping in a tent or shared room (with me) will most likely be the sleeping arrangement, maximum two weeks. Only vegans and vegetarians or anyone that would like to learn about reducing their ecological footprint.
Please tell me not only about yourself, we would love to have you!Types of help and learning opportunities

I am happy to share stories, go out and about and recommend great places to visit around Paraty.
Help
We have a couple that takes care of the day to day, but at times may need you for diverse activities. At the moment we need more help with marketing and social media to attract the right type of client. Yard work and cleaning may be asked of you occasionally. I'm also looking for someone to do a mural on some walls!

I provide a shared room with mosquito net and fan, equipped kitchen, bathroom, as well as dry basics for lunch (pasta, sauce, rice, beans, oil etc).
What else ...
There is much to do around Paraty. It is a region full of beautiful waterfalls and beaches. There are wonderful restaurants and shops, and a quaint historic city. My house is 25 min by foot from the historic center and I also provide a bike for your use when guests are not renting them. There are buses to many beaches and boats to others. The city offers many festivals throughout the year (music, film, cultural, dance). There are local music groups, capoeira etc.

My job was basically gardening, but Lena was always giving jobs that we were confortable with.
It was a good stay.
Although I might not have been the best volunteer she had, I tried my best to help her as much as I could and she was very understanding. I look forward to staying with her again.
The accommodation was lovely too- a bed with a partition curtain in her house.
She also helped me get involved with different… read more
