Description
My name is Marie, I'm french and I have been living for 30 years. in Quelfes, near Olhão in the Algarve.
This is countryside, with view on the sea. It's a calm and charming environment, only 5 km away from the coast. This is a place to disconnect, to escape the hustle and bustle, yet it remains just a short drive from the golden beaches, lively bars, and charming restaurants.
You will stay in a small cottage with a bedroom, and an equiped kitchen.
I provide the basic ingredients, so you’ll need to prepare your own meals. At Olhão’s market, you can buy fresh, local fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat at reasonable prices.
I supply bed sheets and towels, and you’re welcome to use the washing machine for your laundry.
In exchange, I ask for 14 hours of help per week per person.
I’m flexible with scheduling the hours of help, though sometimes this may depend on the weather.
My place is not easily accessible by public transport, so I prefer to welcome people who have their own car.
Please note that I’m a French speaker—if you’re looking for an immersive Portuguese language experience, this might not be the right fit for you!
I prioritize welcoming couples, aged 23 or older.
EU citizens should bring their current European Health Insurance Card.
If you are from outside the EU, you must have valid medical insurance.
I will verify all volunteers’ ID and health insurance upon arrival.

And I’ll take you to Olhão’s Saturday market—a vibrant, colorful place where we can pick up fresh local produce, fish, and meats. Afterward, we’ll enjoy a drink at one of the café terraces overlooking the lagoon.

The town of Olhão is 5 km away it is a picturesque fishing haven, one of the region’s most vibrant fishing ports, it boasts one of the largest fresh fish markets in the Algarve.
It is a fascinating town with a labyrinth of narrow winding streets, flat-roofed houses which give it a Moroccan style.
The nearby coast of Olhão, with its enchanting islands of Culatra and Armona, is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, one of three protected areas of Portugal accessible from Olhão via ferry.
Within one hour you'll reach the west side of the Algarve, the city of Lagos, its cliffs, rock formation of "Ponte da Piedade",
Within 20 Mn to the East, you'll reach Tavira and its long history which origins date back to the late Bronze Age.

Marie is a wonderful workaway host. She is kind and generous. She sets clear expectations for the work which is very helpful. On warm days the outdoor work was a little more challenging but it was rewarded with a cool glass of lemonade. This was my first workaway experience and it was very good!
