    Description

Hello, my name is Lela, and I run a small guesthouse in Sno village, a historic and peaceful place in the heart of the Caucasus mountains, at 1,760 meters above sea level. The village if located 160 km from Tbilisi and just 8 km from Stepantsminda. on the foothills of mount Kazbegi (5043 m). Surrounded by stunning mountain views, Sno is known for its medieval fortress, monastery, and traditional village life.

An idea to open a guesthouse came to me a few years ago, when I restored a very old house in the Sno village and since then I have been spending time there from late spring to late November. This region has always been a tourist destination due to its beautiful landscape, deep gorges, unforgettable views, hiking trails, medieval fortresses and churches. All these features created a strong foundation for me to start running a guesthouse, that could become a meeting place for guests from different parts of the world.

The idea came true, it has become a favorite place for me, my friends and visitors, but like any business, no matter how small, it needs development. A place is made cozy by a comfortable yard and locally grown produce. Therefore, we decided to create a new space for relaxation during the next tourist season and also make a vegetable garden, where, along with lettuce, we will have potatoes, garlic, herbs, etc.

As for the house itself, it is a small traditional 19th-century stone-built house with three guest rooms, a shared dining area and kitchen, and cozy outdoor patio with a small garden. In 2022, volunteers from Spain helped build the patio, which has become a lovely space to relax and enjoy quiet mountain evenings.

This time help would be needed in cleaning the garden of the main guesthouse from weeds and doing some light gardening there. Also, the garden of the newly rebuilt adjusted house needs to be taken care of (there is some light building materials the needs to be removed), help with fixing small things in the guesthouse, such as fixing a little bit of furniture.

Additionally, I have small plot next to the guesthouse (600 sqm) where I plan to plant potatoes and some veggies. Help with working on the land and planting vegetables is appreciated.

You will enjoy the real village atmosphere, beauty of the surrounding mountains and on your free time you can do some hiking to Juta village and Chaukhi mountains, Sno and Trusso valley, or just explore cultural sites such as Gergeti trinity church and some others.

As a geographer by profession and an enthusiastic traveler, I have explored almost every corner of Georgia myself. I am always happy to share useful information and personal recommendations about traveling in this region and throughout the country — from well-known highlights to hidden gems that are not in guidebooks.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The atmosphere of the village is relaxed and welcoming. You will have the possibility of learning about the lifestyle of a mountainous Georgian village, exchange a little bit with local villagers, learn about the local traditions, cultures and customs.

I myself is a professor at the State university of Georgia, teaching eco and agro-tourism, and geographer by profession. Therefore, I might be back and forth travelling between the village and the capital. The days when I am in the village and on some occasions, you can be bale participate in the preparation of local food such as khinkali, khabidzgina and some others.

  • Help

    Help

I would need the help of one physically strong workawayer (I am not able to host more than one or couples). The property and the garden are not large, but there is always something than needs to be fixed or done, such as mending, digging in the garden, help with taking care of potato/veggie garden, fixing an old stone wall inside the guesthouse, painting the window frames, mending the furniture in case if needed. Also, DIY projects are very welcome.

Overall, 4-5 hours a day starting from the morning. 2 days off per week based on the mutual agreement for the day offs.

I also own a French bulldog and a curious cat, so keep in mind that their company is also expected.

You are welcome to use the washing machine whenever needed, and there is plenty of outdoor space for drying clothes. Free wi-fi access is available and in case if someone is also working occasionally online, it is a possibility too, since I often work remotely while spending my quiet days in the village.
