  • Description

*️️️️️️️️️Important: we just want people who are really interested in working and learning about goats, farming or construction. For those who just want to scape from city or themselves, or just meet other people I recommend to look for other hosts that may fit you better. We find important to be sure that you know you are caming to a farm and that we are not just another stop in your travel, because we make other people really interested in farming loose the opportunity to stay with us.

Hi, we are Juan, Paz and our children Clara and Mario. Juan is a shepherd who studied forest technical engineer and philosophy. Paz is an arquitect but was all her life working with medicinal plants, destillation, perfums and garden healing. We began our project on March 2012. We were looking for a piece of land to start planting our seeds, and having same animals, when we discovered this ancient valley, close to the peaks and the clouds, the place was over 50 years abandoned. Since then we have been reconstructing most of the ruins and restoring all fertil places as terraces (the place is similar to machu pichu :-)

*on january 2020 we had a fire which burned same houses. 3 months later they are almost complete rebuilded, but now we have the feeling of completing the cheesemakery and the stables, so thats what we will be doing mainly this year 2020.

Our project is to recover and expand the forest and the fertility of the land using traditional ways of working with animals, plants and constructions, having the biggest respect with the nature and LEAVING BEHIND US A FUTURE MORE FERTIL AND SEEDED THAN CONSUMED Our philosophy is that the trees we plant now are going to feed the next generations and so on. So we have already planted over 500 fruit trees, over 1000 for reforesting the mountains around. Plus many medicinal-aromatic plantations. We work on ethnobotanic giving a meaning to all the plants that grow around us.

At the moment we have over 30 animals goats, sheeps, mainly. But our main income cames from the markets and courses we are giving in schools and around spain.

Respect for the earth is our fundament, and the best reward we get is to see fertil places grow. We dont consider ourselves an ecologic farm, WE FEEL OUR SELVES ONLY LOGIC, because we do what is been done since always, but now people call ecologic.
In our farm we are completing a bio cycle with water, plants and animals. We water the fields where will grow the biodiversity plants (medicine) that provide health to the forest(food and wood) and the animals(poo or food of plants)...the animals shit all around fertilizing the fields again. This system increases the fertlity every year to the land and give the best quality and flavour to the milk and the cheese. Giving health away give us health inside in return.

Many rivers are borned in our valley sourrounding the houses, so all water is much pure and suitable for drinking. We also provide us health through the vegetable garden (orchard) and sprouting natural seeds. Also the wild things feed us, is why we must take care of the native plants and trees around because they are the main reason of our presence here.

The goats go with you to the mountains every day, cleaning and recovering the old ways that nobody used for a long time. They will eat the best food an animal could eat...just pure natural and healthy plants from the clean nature from the mountain.
We are also now in a experimental program from the government to study the impact of goats on the vegetation to avoid fires...but we now 10000years already that they do avoid fires, and that the fact that they desappeared of the villages around many countries, has increased the power of the fires.

The farm is up in the mountains, 3.5 km from the village, in a wild place. Our houses have very long views at the front that is south, at the back the mountain protect us from the cold north, and at the sides there are several small rivers. We keep a big forest with a big biodiversity just beside our houses. The place is like a little paradise!!

We also have a house in the village and several separated lands where we grow other kinds of fruit trees that dont fit in the mountain. So we will be from time to time working and/or sleeping in different places. Our children go to school, so during the week Paz and the children stay more down than in the farm.

In the farm Solar energy is provided giving us 12v, just as the cars (the plug is like the cigarretelighter from a car) Also solar hot water shower (sunnydays) or night bath tub between fire and stars (see photo)

*️️️️️️️️️️️️ We ask volunteers to stay with us at least a month as is much work for us to explain all procceses, and if the people goes quickly is not more worth, think about it, if you want to sheperd, milk, make cheese, learn about plants, know how to build samething, and help out a little in the farm is better when you get used to it and invest same time. Is my opinion. But of course if you are a proffesional that wants to give a hand in any aspect of the farm (cheese maker, constructer) then is not a problem to stay a shorter time. And of course volunteers that want to learn more and stay longer terms are very much wellcomed

Best wishes and thanks to all of you helpers of the nature, helpers of the world.

    Saludos, ànimos y fuerza

We like to work with people, teaching and learning, showing and explaining everything what we do. So we all learn from each other and the work has a meaning, samething to be enjoyed. Our farm works like a sheperding school, different disciplines that involve the land are being showed everyday. The work is diferent from time to time and of course the deal is that you learn skills and practice until you make your work effective. This is why is important that if you came here is because you want to learn and live with animals and plants, get dirty and play as much as you can with the different aspects of the farm so you can get good knowledge about it.

Medicinal plants, trees, plants are around, waiting to be learned.

Spanish language can also be learned. we can help if you want to.

We can also teach cooking as Juan was cook over ten years

any other thing you might be interested to learn we will try to help you

  • Help

We are looking for people that are very very very interested to learn mainly about goats. Taking the goats up to the mountain is the main task. Also milking and making the cheese are shown when the volunteer really shows interest in this fields and of course, when the goats have milk.

Also construction hands are always very wellcomed when we are building (all kind from stone walls to roofs made of wood)

Farming hands in summer (Orchard, gardening, greenhouse, Hoe working, hay making, repairing things, using imagination...

Other works that we are on:

Cleaning the forest. Little by little, year after year, we discover more from our forest by cleaning, in exchange we get firewood, more chesnuts, archeological discoveries, incredible trees, mushrooms. Then we bring the goats to keep the place clean and fertilized. The most important is that we avoid fires to destroy the ancient forests like the one we are working on. The forest is mostly public propiety, this means, from all of us, i dont get any money from this, i do it just because i love it, and makes me feel like making a revolution, growing forests vs. destructing forests...

Orchard: always needs hands. But little by little day after day we have been growing from lots of varieties of vegetables and beans,to cereals, huge watermelons, diverse berries,...all mixed with medicinal plants. We also have a wintergarden to suport the garden.

Of course we love fruit...and we have planted hundreds of fruit trees that we need to take care. As soon as they produce you will be able to dry the fruit in our dryer and take it with you as a present...but meanwhile eat as much as you can

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The place is very wild up in the mountains and surrounded by different kind of forests, cliffs and rivers. The little way to get here is narrow and dificult for cars. You will need highmountains boots and love hiking to get up here. The village is only 4 km walking and there are different beautifull ways to get there.
Our life goes on between the farm and the village, where we have an appartment because our children go to school and is much easier to be able to go walking with them. Therefore we sleep same days in the week in the village. We also planted trees in other several parts of the mountains, so we will be sametimes moving from one mountain to another...our project grows every year yeahh...
There are lots of places to go on free days. This mountains are perfect for hiking. We live near the highest point. In 1.30 hours you get to the Top where you can see portugal, very special views. There are also many naturalwater swimingpools+ waterfalls everywhere in any path you take to go for a walk. This place has lot of history and stories. Our house is sourronded by a big lost roman road, theres also a big gotic church in the middle of the forest!! Of course all is abandoned and can be visited. Theres not enough time to visit all castles around and no time to hear all stories the stones can tell.

The summer is not too hot (around 30*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️) and the winter not cold (mostly is over 0 *️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️)

Please bring your own sleepingbag, lamp, 12volts charger for tlf, good boots, and other things you may need for your own. We ve got all this things to borrow you but sametimes are not enough.
We habe also a blog with more photos you can request from us.

To get to our place is better to go to plasencia, from there you take a bus at 13.00 from monday to friday. You arrive at 15.30 and then i can pick you up in the bus stop.
