  • Description

We live in a chapel in the mountains of Snowdonia at the edge of the national park. The chapel dates from 1838. Many chapels were built in that period in Wales and these days they are being sold as less people go to church. We are converting ours in creative and collaborative space. Our goal is to host innovation retreats for pirates.

Liam's back ground is in technology. Liam has done a lot of the building so far, but he is overloaded and needs more time to manage the overall project. Building is a high priority for us as it will allow us to expand our capacity. If you're practical but haven't done much building Liam will be able to help and supervise you. There's a lot of other things going on, we always need help with cooking, housekeeping but also media production and social media marking. Could you help with any of these? We want to set up a media studio soon and have regular internet broadcasts as well as make occasional films.

We believe that creativity and innovation are the what we need to change the world. Intention is everything and those who want to do innovation just to make more money will only add to our problems.

This is why we're building our pirates ship to be a creative vehicle that supports teams and allows them to go on innovation voyages and adventures, deep in to subjects and areas that the corporate world doesn't want to fund.

We have a really strong connection with our local organic farm called Tyddyn Teg. They are a great team of eco-minded farmers who are doing really well making increasing amount of delicious organic veg. We're completely open to hosting people who want to spend part of their time onboard and part helping down at the farm.

There are a lot of people on our network, some are visionaries, artists, techies, healers and farmers. Hopefully you'll connect with some during your stay.

The chapel tends to be busier in summer and quieter in winter.

There is a lot to do. Over the past year we have got the space into a condition where we can host and we have put some of the Cabin on rental from April ( they are very highly rated).
This is convenient for now to earn some money for the project, our medium term goal is to develop a name as a creative space for flow state, peak performance and a space where talented people can get together and create innovation without needing big corporate backing.

We do a diversity of projects. For example last year we got a small grant to develop a VR language learning game. We produced a prototype for learning Welsh and this project has great potential to move forward if we have more resources. If your interested in VR and like learning or teaching language then this could be a great project to collaborate with us on.

Skill we need start with building, especially carpentry, plumbing, electrics. We need help with cleaning and cooking and can use a range of other skills like social media, video editing, writing, research, programming and business skills.

advanced topics we're interested in: blockchain, IoT, new paradigm economic, VR, collaboration, game theory, peak performance, flow state, robotics.

We are have a few small single and double cabins. Being small these stay cosy in the winter months when the rest of the chapel can be very cold. We want to build more so that we can host more people in our community.

The other warm space in Winter is the kitchen which is spacious enough to sit 8 comfortably for dinner. We are vegetarian and vegan and all communal meal we could are at least veggie. There is a local organic farm just down the road and we get all our veggies from here, they also have very nice free range eggs.

Bring warm clothes. If you're from a warm country, or used to being in warm modern houses with lots of heating, you might even find it cool here sometimes even in Summer. 2018 has been super warm and sunny so far, but you never can tell when it might turn colder. If you are coming any other season then make sure you have a comfortable warm jacket. It's not impossible for it to be 11 degrees any season of the year here and there is no heating in some parts of the Chapel. Down jackets are advised in winter. We may be able lend you something but make sure to arrange this before your arrive.

It's a short walk from the Chapel to a bus stop from where it's easy to reach Bangor, Caernarfon, and Llanberis. Some buses though don't run in the evenings. We can probably pick you up if you arrive in the evening but if your out exploring you'll need to be careful to check when the last bus is. If you like going for hikes and walks then we are in the perfect place.

We are based 10 miles away from Snowdon - Snowdonia National Park - a lot of places to hike and visit - mountains, beaches, quarries. Google "Lonely Planet North Wales" and you'll see, too many things to describe here.
