Description
We are a family of five living on a small semi-remote property in the NT growing food and raising ducks, chooks and milking goats. We are located 1 hour drive from the historic goldmining township of Pine Creek on the McKinlay River (2hrs from Katherine and 3 hours from Darwin). All our power is generated from solar panels and our continual aim is to live more simply. We are homeschooling with natural learning methods and this spills over into all of us learning by experience.

GardeningDIY and building projectsAnimal CareFarmstay helpHelp around the houseGeneral MaintenanceCultural exchange and learning opportunities
We spend a lot of time outside and in the surrounding bush - walking, riding, fishing, hunting, following the goats, burning fire breaks etc. We also try to live quite simply, and cook and eat mostly from the garden.

Help
As a family our lifestyle is dependant on looking after our animals and gardens and we each have our responsibilities and also work together, so the following jobs are not what is expected by helpers on their own but are things they will be helping us with.
Even though we do expect helpers to be willing to work on their own at times, we usually work together. Depending on the current project we have (for example finishing building our house, fixing a fence, building a new duck shed or planting new seedlings) jobs vary from building, farming, gardening, cleaning and tending animals. We have established gardens that need to be maintained depending on the season but may include - weeding, collecting and putting out mulch, watering, composting and planting. Each day we ensure all the animals are fed and have fresh water. We milk the goats and sweep out their pens, and feed the ducks and chickens and dogs. We eat most meals together and all visitors must we willing to clean up after themselves and help maintain the tidiness of communal spaces outside of helping hours.Languages spoken

Accommodation
There are several options for accomodation. We have a self-contained second small house, a small sleeping shack on the hill, a billabong shack, and plenty of grassy areas to pitch a tent.
What else ...
All our greywater goes to water the food gardens, so we do not use any pertrochemical body products or sunscreen but we will provide very simple alternatives - homemade soap, vinegar hair wash, coconut oil body cream and zinc based sunscreen.
The river nearby is home to crocodiles but it is a beautiful place to explore and go fishing. There is a safe swimming alternative in the dam nestled in the hills behind the property and we have a few bikes that visitors can use.
Pine Creek is an hours drive and Kakadu 1.5 hours. Katherine 1.5 hours and Darwin 2.5 hours drive.A little more information
