Description
We are a registered non-profit Social Promotion Association based in San Giovanni, Italy. Our project focuses on community, creativity, cultural activities and the development of a welcoming shared space.
We are looking for friendly, responsible and proactive Workawayers who would like to contribute to the daily life and growth of our association. Help may include light cleaning and organisation of shared spaces, creative projects, communication, social media, event promotion and support with the development of the association’s activities.
We offer free accommodation in exchange for approximately 2–3 hours of help per day, 5 days per week. Food and meals are not included, so Workawayers will be responsible for buying and preparing their own food. A kitchen will be available for self-catering.
We value creativity, independence, collaboration and the exchange of ideas. During your free time, you will be able to discover the local area, experience Italian life and take part in the social and cultural environment surrounding our project.
Tasks and schedules will always be discussed and agreed in advance according to each person’s interests, experience and abilities. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Workawayers should be comfortable living independently, as initially they may be the only people staying permanently at the property. However, they will not be isolated: members of our Social Promotion Association regularly visit and work on site to develop the project, improve the spaces and organise future cultural, creative and community events.
Through their time with the association’s members, Workawayers can learn about the development of a non-profit community project, event planning, creative activities, communication and the practical organisation of shared spaces. They will also have opportunities to practise Italian, meet local people and contribute their own ideas, culture and skills.
A separate tourist accommodation will operate on the upper floor of the property, so Workawayers may occasionally meet visitors from Italy and other countries. The Workaway accommodation and responsibilities will be clearly explained, with respect for everyone’s independence and privacy.
We are looking for mature, independent and responsible people who enjoy both quiet time and collaborating with a developing community project. -

Help
We are looking for a practical, creative and proactive person who can help us with the daily care and development of our Social Promotion Association.
Activities may include:
– light cleaning and organisation of shared spaces;
– basic maintenance, painting and small non-specialist repairs;
– gardening and outdoor care;
– creative decoration and improvement of the space;
– photography, video and content creation;
– social media and promotion of the association;
– support with cultural and community projects or events;
– sharing ideas to help our association grow.
We will organise activities together according to the Workawayer’s experience, interests and practical skills. We especially welcome independent people who enjoy taking initiative, while also collaborating and exchanging ideas with our team.
The expected contribution is approximately 2–3 hours per day, 5 days per week. The schedule is flexible and will be agreed in advance. We do not require professional or hazardous work, and specialised technical tasks will be handled by qualified professionals. -

Our association has an international and local team. Two of our members are German women, while two other members are residents of San Giovanni d’Asso. Workawayers will therefore have opportunities to communicate in Italian, German and English. The local members can help guests practise Italian and learn more about the traditions and everyday life of the area, while our German members can offer German conversation and support. We are also happy to learn and practise languages brought by Workawayers from other countries. -
Accommodation
Workawayers will have a small private bedroom within the association’s premises. They will also have access to the association’s living room, kitchen and bathroom. The bathroom and common areas are shared with association members when they are present for meetings, activities or project work.
Food is not included, so Workawayers will be responsible for buying and preparing their own meals. The kitchen provides facilities for self-catering.
Outside, there is a large open space with a garden and an area that can be developed as a vegetable garden. There is also a storage room containing tools for gardening and basic maintenance. Workawayers are welcome to enjoy these areas and help us care for and creatively improve them, according to their interests and experience.
The accommodation is separate from the tourist rental on the upper floor. We ask guests to keep their bedroom and the shared spaces clean and tidy, and to use the association’s facilities and tools responsibly. -
What else ...
San Giovanni d’Asso is a peaceful Tuscan village located between the Crete Senesi and the Val d’Orcia. During their free time, Workawayers can explore the historic village, visit the Truffle Museum, enjoy countryside walks and discover the surrounding landscape.
The area is ideal for cycling, with scenic roads and routes connecting small villages, natural areas and panoramic viewpoints. As the landscape is hilly, an e-bike can make longer journeys easier. Nearby places to visit include Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia, Bagno Vignoni, Montisi and Siena.
Workawayers can also enjoy local markets, traditional festivals, cultural events, food and wine experiences, hiking and the relaxed lifestyle of the Tuscan countryside. -
