We are a family of 5 (kids aged 14, 11 & 9) and live in a rented farmhouse in NSW. We have chooks, a cat and a dog, and lots of open space, green hills, fresh air and no visible neighbours. The farm we live on has sheep and cattle but we do not work on this farm. Our location is right on top of the great dividing range so the air is crisp, making summers very pleasant. We’re close to many national parks and waterfalls and close to two larger cities. My husband is a builder who uses natural and/or recycled materials and interested in cob/straw building, tiny homes etc. Our passions are clean living and self sustainability which we are constantly working towards. We don’t have a TV but we love music and good times together as a family. My elderly parents live in the next town and we spend a lot of time with them also.

We enjoy good food, family fun, fresh air, waterfalls and hiking, camping, boating, fishing, gardening, animals, local markets, arts and crafts, and music. There are lots of local tourist destinations within a 150km radius. We also have our own bees and you can learn the skills required to be an apiarist and keep our most important little friends alive ... and also enjoy the beautiful raw honey they produce for us.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
I am taking on some work for 3 months which will mean I need help with day to day life for our family. I will mostly be working from home so I’ll be available to help with supervision and any questions etc. I will need assistance with cooking, cleaning, washing, feeding animals, entertaining the kids as it will be during the school holidays. Our kids are very “free range” and prefer to be outdoors exploring, constructing, creating and having fun. We enjoy a very basic diet of home cooked meals due to intolerances to any packaged foods so everything needs to be created from whole foods. I’m in the process of creating a veggie garden and require help with that too. Our Saturdays will be family time together doing something fun and you will be welcome to join us. Sunday’s are our quiet days and we mostly rest and prepare for the next week.
We are currently trying to locate a caravan to use as a guest bedroom, or materials to create a tiny home. We also have accommodation arranged on a farm 15kms down the road with a vehicle provided. This will be with other backpackers who are currently working on my bosses farm. All meals will be provided and dietary requirements can be catered for (apart from vegan or vegetarian as we use a lot of bone broth, fresh eggs and honey from our bees). There is the possibility of you being able to help us construct a tiny home for you whilst living at the other accommodation until it is complete.
This is our first time hosting but my employer has hosted many people and I can’t wait to have the privilege to do the same.
