So that’s a bit of a story... Stephen needed a house sitter and being a fisherman myself, I contacted him cause an expert as him will obviously live in the right spot for a guy like me... by the time he responded to my message, he told me that he didn’t actually needed a sitter anymore cause he had a cancelation, but that I was more than welcome
… read more to hang around anyway cause he had to drive 2600km... I thought this offer was very generous and I jumped on it because I was ending an 8000km road trip myself and needed to chill... but when I showed up at his place, at 4:20 flush, there was an ambulance... Stephen actually just had a terrible accident and it was not a nice scene and he was in a stretcher with a neck brace and there was blood... not good! They tried to send me back on my way, but I decided to take a look to see if I could be of any help... turns out they needed an extra hand to carry him in the ambulance... and then, just before to go, Stephen asked me if I wanted to make the 2600km drive at his place... I was left speechless and didn’t find anything to answer at that time and he left for the hospital... I ended up having a couple drinks with his awesome neighbors that kept telling me how bad of a drive that was gonna be... narrow gravel road with no services or traffic... this was like music to my ears somehow and I thought I should go talk to Stephen at the hospital... so ended up jumping in my car heading toward the hospital an hour drive away... but sadly, he called me telling me that he found a driver before I reached the hospital and asked if I was fine or needed a place to stay... I was perfectly fine, but disappointed I wasn’t gonna do the drive... so yes, perhaps I only met the guy 2 minutes while he was laying in a stretcher, but if you take time to call your « workawayer » to check on him while you’re at the hospital recovering from a really bad accident... you deserve my absolute respect and a positive reference... I hope things go smoothly from here on... keep in touch and let me know if you got other crazy road trips to do, that’s my kind if thing and I’ll stick in the « region » (Alaska/Yukon) for a little while... peace! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
