    Description

We have a beautiful home in the south of France with a stunning garden. In the springtime both the house and the garden require attention. It is a quiet, corner of France surrounded by vineyards, forests, rolling hills, medieval cities and enjoys beautful weather. Its heaven for cycling, hiking, canoeing, river swimming and heaps of other sports.

Our house is in a village, with a boulangerie, post office and cafe. The next town is 7km away and has shops, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets. It is a magnificent opportunity to experience French rural life and if you want to practise your French, there will be no shortage of opportunities!

Skills & Knowledge to be Shared: Unfortunately, I speak terrible French and have only lived in this region part time for the last 10 years! However, Workawayers, who are passionate about gardens will love the opportunity to work in a beautiful meditarranean garden, which is evolving to accomodate new realities imposed by climate change. Equally, for those who enjoy handywork, may find a pleasure in helping a 200+ year old, stone farm house to maintain itself! Music and guitars are found through out the house, and it would be a pleasure to make music (or listen to others!) in the evenings. Lastly, if I am not from the region nor French, I have been living and working in (mainly) Africa, the South Pacific and Latin America for the last 30+ years - doing development or humantarian work - which might be interesting for people thinking to explore other parts of the world.

What do I hope to Learn: Its always a buzz to have new people and new blood around. No doubt there will be much to be learned whether about gardens, handiwork or simply from the stories of others! I love listening to young people and seeing the world through their eyes. For those who are "less young", it is equally wonderful to learn and hear about their experiences and perspectives.

    Help

Gardening: trimming plants, weeding, & mulching.
House: sanding and repainting wooden shutters.

I will be there too and we will do the tasks together!

NOTE: Workaway wants me to make clear that this is not a business and that workawayers will not be engaged in commercial activities. If it is not clear already in my description - this is my home and this is not a business. Secondly, let me emphasise that I am hoping to find two people to help me with two weeks of gardening and shutters work likely in April - it is not an ongoing situation.

    Accommodation

Separate bedrooms, with big, comfortable beds and a shared bathroom. They look out onto the garden and the valley below. Workawayers are responsible to keep bedrooms and bathrooms clean and to wash linen and towels.
Food is important! Rural France where it is an art to eat well but inexpensively. I expect to discuss how to best manage food with the workawayers, but I would imagine that breakfast and one meal will be left to the workawayers, and hope that we make at least one meal together during the day. We of course will adapt plans for the weekends.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The village is a magnificent jumping off place for outdoor activities and sport. There are wonderful towns to visit. Montpellier and Nimes are an hour away. Public transport is available from the nearby towns but it is a bit tricky otherwise, cars for the day can be rented. I will be happy to help where possible.

There are no specific house rules, beyond normal considerations for noise and cleanliness. Smoking is outdoors - and buts are to be disposed of correctly.
