    Description

    Mabuhay!

We are Mike (English) and Lisa (Filipina). We are the business owners of a small boutique beach resort in southern Cebu, Philippines. We have just completed the first phase of renovating our private beach house through the workaway programme, having hosted 16 couples during the past 12 months.

We met in Dubai many years ago, where we both worked as corporate executives. Lisa is a Human Resource professional who specialised in behavioural psychology, leadership and talent development. She is a passionate cook and loves hosting dinner parties. Mike was in advertising specialising in commercial shoots, content writing, filming and production. He is a PADI dive instructor. Four years ago, we decided that it’s time to work for ourselves. Along with our two dogs, we packed our bags and left Dubai and are now the proud business owners of an award-winning beach resort, supported by 20 employees. We both speak English fluently. Mike speaks French and Lisa speaks Tagalog (fluent) and Spanish (intermediate).

We enjoy being workaway hosts. We respect the skills and vibrant personalities workawayers bring to our project. Workawayers also enjoy their time with us, as we give the opportunity to integrate into a completely different culture.

This year, we are continuing as workaway hosts for the following projects:

    • Developing an outdoor workout space
    • Renovate a cabana
    • Other minor maintenance work
    • Resort eco projects
    • Resort water pressure

We prefer our workawayers to be two people, preferably a couple. One person must have construction skills (carpentry, plumbing, design) or architectural skills. The partner or friend can assist with either painting and gardening.

The right people should be willing to embrace nature, a different culture and an under-developed infrastructure and technology. You should not be afraid of hard-work, have a mature disposition, be honest but fun-loving and are willing to experience a different pace of life from what that which you are typically accustomed.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There will be huge learning opportunities especially in the cultural exchange aspect. Our young team of employees will be so eager to learn from your experience. They will welcome your advice and insights on how the world differs from their day to day lives. There is something inspirational about teaching young people who are just starting to make their mark in the world. In return, you will get to know the local culture and heritage, contribute to the local community and thriving tourism industry of the Philippines.

Interested workawayers must also love animals. We have rescued a sick puppy we fondly call Paco, named by our previous workawayer from Mexico. He lives in the house and learning to trust humans again.

We accept volunteers to stay with us for a minimum of one month and a maximum of two months. You will be required to work 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Of course, we will be flexible with working days and timings as long as the expected output is delivered.

    Accommodation

Selected workawayers will live by themselves at our private furnished accommodation. They will enjoy their own bedroom with en-suite bathroom in a large beach house, with living room, dining area and kitchen. We provide a free laundry service once a week. Our housekeeping team will visit the house once a week to change bedsheets, towels and do a general tidy-up.

Last year, we have rescued a sick puppy we fondly call Paco (named by a workawayer from Mexico). He now lives in the house and has become a source of joy and companionship for workawayers. Therefore, any interested workawayers must love animals and should be willing to look after Paco, as he continues to gain strength and learn to trust humans again.

    What else?
All guests at our resort are 16 years or older, so you can truly experience tranquillity and relaxation. You will also have the opportunity to meet and socialise with other resort guests; 90% being international tourists.

We will offer complimentary meal during your stay with us. In addition, we'll offer 15% discount on meals ordered at the resort restaurant, with the exception of daily blackboard specials. The private accommodation is fitted with a stove and oven, crockery and refrigerator allowing workawayers to live comfortably. Both the house and the resort have Wi-Fi, so you won’t be totally disconnected from the rest of the world.

As remote as it sounds, the right couple will have access to our fully-developed beach resort overlooking a stunning bay. The resort is known for its beautiful house reef with spectacular fish and corals - perfect for snorkelling or diving (for qualified divers). Workawayers can also enjoy use of the resort’s swimming pool, spa, restaurant and bar.

We are 20 minutes away from the famous whalesharks at Oslob. We have access to local markets, churches, gym, supermarket, hospital, pharmacy and department store which can all be reached by bus, local tricycle or renting your own scooter.

Needless to say, the couple will have an opportunity to explore southern Cebu and neighbouring islands such as Bohol, Dumaguete and Siquijor. In your spare time, you can enjoy visiting the area’s magnificent waterfalls, mountain peaks, canyoneering, beautiful beaches or simply snorkelling at our private beach.
