Description
Lively blended family in Tórshavn with a private apartment for our Workawayers
About us:
We are a happy, busy blended family living in a large house with a beautiful garden right here in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Dad is a sea captain and we love the ocean and boats, so if you are interested in maritime life, beautiful nature, and Faroese culture, you will love staying with us. We don't have any animals, just a busy and happy household!
Our family setup changes a bit from week to week:
We have two baby girls who live with us full-time (a toddler of 1.5 years and a newborn baby of 2 months).
Every second week, three older children join us: a 13-year-old boy who loves football, a 9-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old girl.
Dad also has a 13-year-old son who visits occasionally.
This means some weeks are full of high energy with older kids, and other weeks are quieter with just the babies.
What we offer (Your Accommodation):
We are very lucky to have a completely private, separate apartment within our house that is dedicated entirely to our volunteers. It gives you all the privacy and comfort you need after a day's work. Because of this setup, we have plenty of space and love to host couples, two friends, or even a small group of up to 4-6 people traveling together.
Tórshavn is a fantastic base for exploring the Faroe Islands, with easy access to buses, hiking trails, and city life. And when the captain’s schedule and weather permits, there might be a chance to join us on a boat trip!
What we need help with:
With a big house, a garden, and babies in the house, there is always something to do. We are looking for mature, independent, and proactive volunteers to help us for about 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Your tasks could include:
Maintenance around our big house and light cleaning.
Gardening, weeding, and keeping our outdoor spaces nice.
Helping prepare meals for our big family.
Playing football or hanging out with the older kids when they are here, or giving a hand with the toddler.
We prefer stays of at least 2–3 weeks.
Because we have very small babies, we strictly look for responsible, clean, and positive people who love family life but also enjoy having their own independent space. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are a lively Faroese family and we would love our Workawayers to experience what everyday life in the Faroe Islands is really like – not just visit as tourists.
While staying with us, we want you to feel welcome as part of our family. You are welcome to join us for family meals, outings and activities, spend time with the children and experience ordinary Faroese family life. At the same time, you have your own private apartment, so there is plenty of opportunity to relax and have your own space too.
We can introduce you to Faroese culture, traditions, food and language, as well as our beautiful nature and small island community. We are happy to teach you some Faroese and tell you about our history, traditions and what it is like growing up and raising a family here.
The sea is also a big part of our lives. Trygvi is a sea captain and we own boats, so we can share our knowledge and experience of boats, fishing and maritime life in the Faroe Islands. When the weather, season and our schedules allow, there may also be opportunities to join us on a boat trip, go fishing or experience the islands from the sea.
We also enjoy exploring the islands by car, visiting villages, being outdoors and taking spontaneous family trips, and we are happy to include our Workawayers when it fits. This can be a great opportunity to see places and experience everyday Faroese life that you might not discover as a tourist.
Our children have different ages and interests – football, gaming, fishing, gymnastics, swimming, drawing, music and creative activities – so there are many opportunities to connect with them and share your own interests and skills.
For us, cultural exchange works both ways. We are curious about the world and would love to learn about your country, language, traditions and way of life too. We especially think it is valuable for our children to meet people from other countries and cultures.
If you would like to cook something from your home country, teach us some words in your language, share music, traditions, skills or simply tell us about life where you come from, we would love that.
We hope you leave our home having learned something about the Faroe Islands and Faroese family life – and hopefully we will have learned something from you too. -

We provide three meals a day as part of the exchange.
Workawayers are very welcome to join our family meals, and we think eating together is a lovely part of getting to know each other. As a busy family, however, not every meal is necessarily a big sit-down family meal.
You will also have access to food and your own kitchen in the private apartment, so you can prepare your own meals when you prefer.
We eat normal family food as well as Faroese food, including fish and other local foods, and we are happy to let you experience some traditional Faroese food during your stay.
We would also love to taste food from your home country if you ever feel like cooking for us – sharing food is one of the nicest ways to share cultures.
Please let us know about allergies or dietary requirements before your stay so we can discuss what we can accommodate. -
