Description
Building with natural and salvaged materials while creating community
2/11/2023 update: Currently we are helping to finish the roofing and siding on an old farmhouse that will be part of a living history museum. At the end of March(2023) we will be deconstructing an old 2 room school house (we estimate this deconstruction taking about 12 days, we have space for several volunteers to help with this project). When there is extra time we are working on the the natural cabin, we have started the 4th wall on this micro cabin, this will be half slip-straw and half cordwood. We have also started some mud art and will soon be applying the second coat of earthen plaster to the walls. Message me for more details about these projects and the build schedule.
We invite volunteers to stay from 3 nights - 15 days for first time guests (a longer stay could be discussed after we get a better chance to get to know each other) . We ask for 3 hours of volunteer help per night stayed or 20 volunteer hours per week. Guests are encouraged to take time to explore the nearby lakes and many hiking trails in this corner of the Carolina. We have space for tent camping and can provide a tent and sleeping pad. Once the Micro Cabin is complete we'll also use this space to better accommodate Workaway volunteers. There is also space for parking a camper van or small RVs, we can provide electricity but currently we don’t have RV hookups. We also sometimes have a room space in one of the two houses that open depending on the current guest status. let me know when you are interest in coming through and I'll let you know what accommodations are available.Types of help and learning opportunities
