    Description

    I’m sorry we have no availability at the moment.
    =======================================

    Our little homestead consists of my husband and I (early 30s), two indoor dogs, barn cats, horses, sheep, chickens, turkeys and quail. As well as a veggie garden and greenhouse. My husband works long hours and spends a lot of nights away from home due to his job, while I am a full time homesteader.

    Being a homestead, there is a vast variety of jobs. Cooking, baking, maintaining the greenhouse and vegetable garden, harvesting of the veggies, freezing/ canning/ preserving of the home grown vegetables, mowing the lawn, watering the flowers, animal husbandry (from the daily feeding/ watering to caring for sick or injured animals), small building/fixing projects like fences and animal housing, pasture maintenance, splitting of firewood, painting and staining of buildings/ fences, vehicle maintenance and probably a whole lot more, that I forgot about in this moment haha.

    Our homestead is very rural. No buses, or Ubers. About 20min SW of Rocky Mountain House, near Cow Lake. Because of the animals we don’t get “normal” weekends off, so your work schedule might not be a Monday to Friday, 9-2. But that largely depends on you. For me it is important that you fill the 25hrs per week as intended, but I’m very flexible on when you choose to work and what kind of tasks you want to help with.

    Please note, some of my animals are being raised for their meat. I butcher and process them myself. This will be happening within the next few month. While you don’t have to partake in the actual butchering, I just want you to be aware, that this is happening.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    There is lots of different skills to learn, as a homestead has such a variety of work. Being located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, it’s just an amazing area to explore. Learning English is a given. We enjoy learning about other cultures along the way.

    Being a homestead, there is a vast variety of jobs to choose from depending on your skills and interests. From cooking and house work, to the daily feeding and watering of the animals, egg collecting in the chicken and quail coops, small building/fixing projects (sheds, fences, etc), possibly some horse training if you are familiar with the blue and yellow world ;), watering and maintaining the veggie garden and greenhouse, harvesting fruit and veggies, splitting of firewood, to pasture maintenance and lawn mowing. It really depends what your skills and interests are 🙂

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    You will be staying in our guest room with your own bathroom. WiFi included, tv available in the shared living room.

    I usually cook supper for everyone, however if cooking is something that interests you, you are more than welcome to take over some meals as part of your work hours or just to show us part of your culture. There might also be some breakfasts and lunches that I prepare, depending on the day, but for the most part you will be making your own breakfast, lunch and snack. Since you are living in our home, you’ll obviously have access to the kitchen and all food in the house at any time.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    There is no public transportation, Ubers or anything like that available in our rural area. However if you don’t have your own vehicle, we could find an adventure together, such as hiking, walking, swimming, etc. There is so many lakes, waterfalls, mountains, hikes, etc around us, it’s hard to list them all, plus the museum and historic site right in town.

    However please keep in mind, that the homestead is my full time job, so my time for adventures is limited.

    If you don’t have your own vehicle, I can pick you up at the Bus station in Red Deer.
