    Description

We are a private property nestled on a beautiful acreage overlooking Conception Bay in Cupids, Newfoundland. It’s a sacred space for solitude, relaxation, and healing, consisting of a small apple orchard, a small two apartment small house, and a labyrinth.

I am a mostly retired psychotherapist and spiritual care provider. I share this peaceful land with my friendly dog, Keely. I am deeply involved in my local community, volunteering, local trails committees, and faith groups. I'm a poet, a novice violinist, and a founding member of the Sanctuary of the Avalon, a cooperative focused on earth care and supporting humanity. I live a contemplative life but love sharing meaningful conversations and social evenings with friends and volunteers.

The property is a sanctuary space featuring:

    • A 27-tree apple orchard and other fruit bearing trees/shrubs
    • A magnificent 50' Chartres-style Labyrinth
    • Forest trails, a look-out point, and a meditation site
    • A root cellar and a small hermitage

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You will have a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich culture and rugged beauty of Newfoundland. We can offer:
    • Local Connections: Visits to faith communities, pubs, the local Legacy Centre, and volunteering opportunities with the Trails Committee or L'Arche community.
    • Skills & Knowledge: Learn about land maintenance, permaculture, tree care, contemplative practices, and even poetry writing.
    • Shared Experiences: I enjoy learning from people of different cultures—especially through sharing meals, music, and spiritual perspectives. I look forward to broadening my own worldview through our exchange.

    Help

I am seeking helpers who are respectful of quiet, contemplative space and are interested in both physical help and creative ideas. Tasks are varied and can be tailored to your skills and interests:

    • Land & Garden help: tree pruning, mulching, orchard help, and light gardening.
    • Helping with projects around the property, permaculture initiatives, and minor upkeep
    • Creative sharing of interests and skills with the local community

    • Free WiFi
    • I will provide all food and we can share cooking duties, enjoying meals together and celebrating our diverse culinary backgrounds. My dog, Keely, is a gentle part of the household.
In summer, camping on the property is also an option.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    • I travel to St. John's (a historic and vibrant city) most Sundays for two nights, offering you a chance to explore and meet my wider circle of friends in the arts and volunteer communities.
    • The nearest town for shops and amenities (Bay Roberts) is a 15-minute drive away.
    • My daily routine includes early mornings for reading and meditation, and I value a good night's sleep. I practice yoga and meditate and you are welcome to join me.
    • This is a place of peace and reflection. We ask for respect for the quiet nature of the retreat and a shared commitment to maintaining a clean and harmonious living space.
