A Deeply Rooted and Enriching Workaway Experience in Amorgos
Spending time at Wendula’s place in Tholaria, Amorgos, was much more than a Workaway—it was a return to the essential. Nestled in the arid mountains of the island, her beautiful home offers a breathtaking view over the village of Langada and a profound sense of calm. The surrounding

The work was structured and fulfilling: 4 hours a day of hands-on tasks like painting chairs, sanding tables, cleaning the house and helping to cover a roof. Each task was an opportunity to learn, guided with precision by Wendula’s keen eye and experience. I appreciated how satisfying it felt to see the progress each day and to contribute to meaningful, tangible projects.
Lunches were a real highlight—Wendula cooks with fresh ingredients straight from her garden, and the results are simply delicious. My personal top 3: her Gemista, eggplant fritters, and white beans in tomato sauce. Flavorful and lovingly prepared meals that brought people together.
Afternoons were free to explore and unwind. I often walked down to Aegiali beach (just 20 minutes away), and sometimes took the scenic hike back up the mountain or hitchhiked when feeling tired. The rhythm of the days struck a beautiful balance between purposeful work and soulful rest.
What stood out most were the rich exchanges with Wendula—thoughtful conversations that offered insights into the island's traditions, daily life, and local customs. At the same time, she is independent and fully respected everyone’s independence, creating a space where each person could find their own pace.
This Workaway opened a window into a more grounded way of living, and left me with a deep appreciation for the quiet strength of island life. Thank you, Wendula, for the generosity, the guidance, and the shared moments. I will never forgot this experience !

I feel really lucky to have spent 5 weeks at Wendula's and to have met her.
First of all she has an amazing house facing the mountains and a beautiful village on one side, and with a sea view on the other. My accomodation was 5 stars standard with private bathroom and a terrace with the spectacular view on the mountains. Waking up in such a

Regarding the work, the organization was perfect to me: clear work schedules, clear tasks, clear guidelines and always the concern about how it goes and wether everything is okay. All this in a joyful atmosphere. During my stay, among other things, I worked with two other Workawayers on the (numerous) shutters of the house (sanding, varnishing, painting), did some small jobs in the garden, helped Wendula build two pergolas and worked with another Workawayer to clean the "bamboo house" and fix its "roof". There's always something to do and I learnt a lot thanks to Wendula. After the work, a delicious and hearty shared meal always awaited us. The rest of the day and the weekends were all ours. Amorgos is an amazing island with a lot to do, wether you just want to lie on the beach or be more active (hiking in my case). From the house, it takes 10 min by foot to reach Tholaria, the closest village, and 30-40 min to reach the center of Aegialis and/or a beach. It's also very easy (and convenient) to use the bus to get around the island. Last but not least, I can't count the number of times Wendula told me/us how happy she was to have us around and how greatful she was for the work we accomplished, this is more than appreciable. Thanks again Wendula for this "fantastic" time!
Zack and Jaylen undertook a huge job restoring the door frames and shutters throughout the house. They are a meticulous, perceptive and respectful couple. They quickly understood my expectations and I was impressed by their maturity, not only in their work but also in our interactions. Zack exuded Mediterranean culture, with sunshine in his smile,

They brought their youth and good humour to the house, and I am grateful to them for that. I can only recommend them, and if their future path brings them back to Amorgos, I will welcome them with open arms. Zack and Jaylan, I wish you all the best and I miss you already.
Where do we even begin?! This experience with Wendula will be one we'll surely cherish forever and reminisce upon.
Wendula is such a kind, friendly, adventurous and hard working individual. It was a pleasure getting to know her.

She welcomed us in with open arms and cooked us the most AMAZING food.
We spent a month here and mainly worked on all the window frames and shutters of the house; sanding, repairing and painting. The work hours were perfect and we really enjoyed getting to learn a new skill. Any questions we had about the task she was there to guide us as she worked alongside us during the day. We spent almost every afternoon at the beach and had weekends off (she is super flexible with changing off days) so we went on hikes, hired a car to explore the island, and ferried to other ones as well.
A bonus about this workaway is you get to help look after the cutest Donkey, she's super friendly and loves pats!
All of us enjoyed each others company, sharing conversations about our lives and everything else inbetween.
Amorgos itself is an Island not to be missed and this is the perfect way to experience it, getting to feel at home and meet local people and hear their stories along the way.
If we ever get the chance to come back to Greece we will certainly want to return here!
Thank you for everything!

Katerina flew into my house with the wings of an angel. Her sweetness filled the house with joy. Sparkles arouse frome everything she touched with her magical hands. She painted tables and chairs which glimmered in daylight, giving the house a sparkling new look. The mirrors decorated with beach pebbles reflected her smile while she was working.

I stayed one month at Wendula's small paradise on the Island of Amorgos. Overall it was a great experience and I enjoyed every little bit of it. Wendula is a very caring, independent, autonomous, generous, flexible and open-minded person. You can see that she loves what she is doing at first sight. She picked me up at the port of Egiali, gave me a

I had the chance to experience local island work and living and at the same time i had a lot of time to explore the island. Wendula always gave me quite good reccomendations where to go and what to see. My every day tasks involved the care of a veeeery cute donkey, scratching doors and painting work, little DIY-projects as upcycling mirrors and wall-decoration. I also kind of renovated the bamboo house in which i could stay afterwards. That was a really great experience. Thanks to Wendula i connected to a lot of open-hearted local people and felt very welcome from everyone. Last but not least i am very thankful for all the intellectual exchange with Wendula and her support throughout the whole time of my stay.
