Description
We’re an expat couple who left the city to create a home where we could have a garden, a bigger house, and space to welcome family, friends, and exciting projects. We share our home with our friendly dog and our lively 3-year-old, who keeps us on our toes!
Volunteers often come to Estonia because this tiny country feels intriguing and off the usual travel routes. And more often than not, they end up getting much more than they expected! Estonia is a place that attracts those looking for open spaces, peace, and untouched wilderness, while still offering the chance to explore an ancient culture that has held onto its roots despite centuries of foreign rule.
This country is fascinating—it was one of the last nations in Europe to be forced into Christianity, it speaks a language completely different from most European tongues, and it prides itself on being deeply connected to nature while also being incredibly smart and forward-thinking when it comes to technology.
Tallinn, less than an hour away by car or a little over an hour by bus, is a vibrant and welcoming city, especially in summer!
Our home is right in the heart of Lahemaa National Park, surrounded by breathtaking forest trails, mysterious bogs, scenic observation towers, and countless beaches—each with its own charm. There are also cultural attractions nearby, from ancient fishing villages to hidden natural gems waiting to be explored.
Our town is perfectly situated in the center of the park, close to the sea, and well connected by bus. But if you want to explore more freely, we’re happy to lend you a car or a bike!
Volunteering at our place should be a pleasant and relaxing experience. We’re not demanding—our main goal is to create a friendly and easygoing atmosphere where you can feel at home. It’s simply an exchange: we offer you a place to stay, and in return, you help out a little with general tasks.
We’d love for you to feel comfortable, take time to explore the surroundings, and enjoy your stay while also giving us a hand with the house, garden, and other small projects in an independent and flexible way. More than anything, we hope to build a warm and friendly connection! 😊🏡🌿✨

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This is a family environment; we want you to feel as much a part of it as you’d like to be. We are an expat couple where Federico is Italian, I am Ukrainian, and we live in Estonia. Many languages live in this family: Italian, Ukrainian, Russian, English and Estonian. Some better than others. Federico is an artist and moved a lot around Europe, wrote a book and translated Estonian fairy tails to English. Now he is passionate about gardening and can share everything he knows about everything.
I am passionate about improvisational theatre and wild edible herbs and flowers, so can help with these.
Help
Cleaning, cooking, gardening, picking up flowers and herbs, babysitting if you get along with our kid. If you have skills, sometimes we need some light repairing and building done, walking a dog once in a while if we do not have time for it.

Accommodation
We offer you a nice room on the second floor, where you will have a big bed, table with a chair and a shelf where to put your things. The bathroom is shared with us, where we have a bath , but not the shower. Sometimes we cook meals, sometimes we will ask you to cook for us and yourself. You can take anything you like of the food you find and don’t be shy. Breakfast usually everyone prepares what they want, we try to have lunch all together and for the dinner it depends. Most of the time you will need to cook for yourself and sometimes for us too.

What else ...
We live in the countryside, so if you like nature there are a lots of forests around and hiking trails. The sea is 20 minutes walk from us, the river is 1 minute walk from us, famous Viru bog is 20 minutes by car from us.
We have a bike that you can use to go around. When we do not need the car, you can use it to explore around. There are some small local museums around that we can advise you when you are here.
There is a bus that goes straight to Tallinn. It takes 1 hours if the bus is direct and 1:20/30 if it’s not to get to Tallinn.
There is a swimming pool with sauna in Loksa and we are always glad to bring you along with us, so don’t forget your swimming suits!
When you are arrive at Tallinn airport, we are glad to pick you up by car and bring you home.
