Description
Hi, I’m Gráinne! I’m an artist living in Rathmines, Dublin, with my partner and our daughter Sama Luna, who is 1 year old. We live a calm, busy, happy family life and enjoy contemporary art, theatre, music, good conversation, and keeping up with politics, world news, the boycott movement and so on.
Our home is in a beautiful Victorian four-storey house about 20 minutes’ walk or 10 minutes’ cycle from Dublin city centre. We live in the basement apartment, and above us is my parents’ home. The two homes are connected, so family life is very present here and there is a warm, supportive atmosphere.
We would love to welcome someone who enjoys a wholesome, home-based lifestyle and would like to experience everyday life in Dublin as part of a family. That said, we would welcome an independent person whose out and about, or chilling, doing their thing :)

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This would suit someone who wants to experience family life in Dublin in a relaxed and genuine way. I’m from Dublin and my partner is from Syria. Between us, we’ve also lived in Bergen, Barcelona, Cologne, Damascus, Beirut, Venice and Milan, so we enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and sharing stories, food and experiences.
We live very close to Rathmines, which has cafés, restaurants, shops, a library, a swimming pool, gym, sauna and all the basics you might need. Dublin city centre is easily reached on foot or by bike, so there is lots to explore in your free time.
We also love nature, sports, music. I sometimes make my own clothes, or costumes for projects. My partner is formerly an architect-urbanist with experience working in NGO´s and charities.

Help
We are looking for one kind, patient, easygoing and reliable person to help mainly with childcare and some light household tasks.
The main priority is spending time with Sama Luna. She is a joyful, sweet little girl, and I would love to find someone who would be happy to come with me to my studio a few days a week and mind her nearby while I work. This could include taking her to the library or playground, feeding her lunch, and keeping her company through play and daily routines.
On other days, the focus may be more on helping around the house with light cleaning, tidying, laundry, and keeping things running smoothly. About one day a week, there may also be some light household help for my mother upstairs, but the rest of the time you would be helping me in our apartment and with Sama. We can also move hours around so that you can take long weekends to travel and see ireland, for example! And we can give you plenty of tips!
If you have experience with childcare, that would be lovely to know. A full driving licence would also be a bonus, as I am practising driving before my test and it could be useful to have someone confident accompanying me. If you happen to have other skills such as carpentry, photography, arts, arts administration, website building, gardening that could also be something we chat about, but it is not essential at all.
One artwork I have this summer is to design and manage a mobile garden shed with a program of workshops around it! Im loving preparing for it but find I have very little time, compared to what I used to have. So im hoping that I will find a lovely team-mate to come on board and help me with the art-work-baby-life balance!

Accommodation
You will have your own private room at the top of the house with a view over Dublin. The house is a large Victorian home on a peaceful square, just a few minutes from Rathmines.
Although we live in the basement apartment, the homes are connected, and your room will be upstairs in the main house. It is a family environment, and most meals will be shared with us.
What else ...
We are looking for someone who speaks good English, is a non-smoker, and is naturally in tune with a calm, respectful, fun-loving home-based way of living. This is not a good fit for someone mainly looking for partying or late nights out.
Our approach with Sama is quite intentional and low-screen. We do not use TV or phones for her entertainment, so it is important that anyone staying with us is comfortable with that. It is also important to us that photos or videos of Sama are not posted on social media. Sama is amazing. She's really communicative and has a very happy spirit.
We would love to host someone who is warm, mature, respectful, and genuinely interested in family life, childcare, and being part of a peaceful home. If you're interested in culture then I can recommend lots of events, gigs, galleries, museums to go to! :)
