    Description

    Hello WorkAwayers :-)

Winter is upon us… so not a lot going on outdoors. Going to spend the winter working on organizing my tools in my workshop, organizing and cleaning up my greenhouse. Finishing my kitchen projects and the coming art shop. So carpentry, masonry, painting & plumbing.

Reed on… if this sounds like something you could be helpful with…

My long term plan is to make a little oasis with mostly self-reliance and eco wellness in the backyard. And to be a leading example in cutting down on the use of resources by using local supplies, recycling materials, using rainwater and solar power. As well as growing our own organic food in the backyard of our regular single family home, right in the center of a small country town.

I invite anyone who can work independently on projects, so that plans will continue to move forward, while I am recovering.

We’ve been very blessed to have some really good people coming to stay with us, here at our little cozy house and helping out, while I have been recovering, from knee surgery. So we now have really high expectations to any future Workawayers ;-)

*As much as I understand that this is a cultural exchange and I am happy hang out sometimes and have a meaningful conversation. I do work a lot and will not be entertaining guests all day long.
Workawayers need to be able to receive instructions and work on their own sometimes.

*Anybody requesting to stay with us should be able to speak and understand enough English or Danish to receive instructions on projects and scheduling.

*We appreciate people who are motivated, positive and honest and who take initiative to help around the house, to keep the shared spaces of the house and our property clean and comfortable for everyone to enjoy.

*All Workawayers will be expected to keep their own bedrooms & bathrooms tidy & clean.

*Here at our house we work smart… not hard.
In the wintertime I struggle to keep everyone busy. So Workawayers will have plenty of free time to themselves and we rarely start projects here before noon.

*People with a love for gardening and growing and cooking tasty healthy organic food, a steady hand for painting, masonry skills or experience with carpentry, eco construction with natural materials, off grid sustainable solutions and resourcing building materials for renovation projects, will be prioritized.

    Ongoing DIY projects:

    - Finishing the renovation I started in the kitchen in the main house, is the biggest project indoors right now. Resourcing some of the old kitchen cabinets to use for a smaller kitchen in the building, where you guys, the Workawayers, sleep while staying with us.

    - Collecting/resourcing natural materials for building a small cabin and a shelter in the backyard.

    - Collecting natural materials and resourcing used materials for building an outdoor kitchen and rain shower in the backyard.

    - Improving our rain water collection systems and working on a better watering system for our vegetable garden and greenhouse.

    - Working on the fireplace in the garden room, using natural rocks.

    - Painting and general maintenance of our little old brick house.

    - Always expanding, weeding and tending to my little herb and vegetable garden, during the Spring, Summer & Fall! (As everything I grow is organic) 🥕🍒

Just to give you an idea of what’s going on here at our house ;-)

Come help out in our private home, in the most beautiful area of southern Denmark.
Located in a small town, on a long bridged island, in what we like to call “The Danish Mediterranean”… Denmarks best kept secret.

Our small town is close to some of Denmarks best beaches and forests.
I have bicycles for anyone who comes to stay without a car.
And busses drive right by my house to connect you to anywhere you would like to go in Denmark.

My little town has 2 grocery stores, a bakery, a burger joint, a pizzeria, a pharmacy, an Inn and a whole bunch of little private second hand stores, art galleries and local produce stands. All within short walking distance.

I am inviting anyone who can take initiative, has a happy demeanor and is handy and/or has a specific trade within construction and renovation and/or interest or experience with eco projects, gardening and growing organic food & herbs.
*See more detailed description on our current and ongoing projects in the introduction section above.

Workawayers will have small private rooms and share kitchens and bathrooms with us and each other.

There is a big dog in the house. Her name is Rosie and she is a Great Dane.

Music is always a plus. Musicians are welcome.

All guests will have access to the food I grow in my organic herb and vegetable garden, in the summertime.

Tents & Hammocks in my closed garden in the summertime.

    Shared kitchens & shower.

*Note that I will not be able to cook for you right now. You will be cooking your own meals.
All Workawayers will also have free access to the food from our small organic herb and vegetable garden and all berries and fruits that grows in my garden in the summer time. As well as the stables in our kitchen. Any meat and snacks you need beyond that, will be at your own expense. We have no problem with you cooking meat in our kitchen, even though we eat mostly vegetarian food here.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are so many activities in the area around my house.
Feel free to ask if you have any specific interests.
    Too mention a few…
Great beaches, forests and hiking trails.
Lots of ocean activities and some of Denmarks best fishing. (Look up “SHORES - Langeland”. The organization offering a ton of water activities around our island)
    Boat and ocean gear rentals.
    Wild horses.
“Langeland’s Fortet” (Fortress) One of the biggest tourist attractions in Southern Denmark.
    Golf
    Football golf
    Horseback riding & horse rentals
    Segway tours
    Medicinal herb gardens
TICKON (Trankærs International Center for Art and Nature)
Our island is also known as the art island. Many artists live and work out of their art galleries and shops here on Langeland.

*Denmarks national song, “Der Er Et Yndigt Land”, was written under a big oak tree, by the sea, here on out island, by
    Adam Oehlenschläger, in 1819.
