Description
Hello everyone! We are a small nonprofit camp in central Maine that serves the local community from various socio-economic backgrounds. We are looking to create a community of staff who care for and support each other. We are seeking staff members in a variety of areas.
We are seeking a majority of help for the summer. Our greatest need as of now is for a Co-Head Cook for our Kitchen. We are looking for Lifeguards *Certified or Not* as well as Counselors!
We are located on more than 200 acres of forest land and offer a peaceful, natural setting. The camp borders Lower Narrows Pond and Lake Annabessacook. Located on the property are nature trails, a boat dock, and a swimming area, along with many cabins, a theatre, a chapel, a dining hall, a basketball court, ropes courses, a sports field, and more. We encourage and assist our workawayers in experiencing all that Maine has to offer from its large coastline, mountains, and forests!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
From staying and helping with us, you can expect to gain a unique experience connecting with the natural environment. Through trips to explore Maine's unique geography including National and State Parks, which we can assist in transportation to, as well as exploring our lakefront property on kayaks, canoes, and walking trails, we have opportunities to grow in your knowledge of the outdoors and Maine’s ecosystem.
Staff members will have the opportunity to gain skills in group management, property upkeep, culinary skills, as well as knowledge in the processes of maintaining a summer camp. Meeting people from all over the country and world.
Norman, our director of 40 years, is eager to meet individuals from an array of backgrounds who are motivated to help and learn about non-profit retreats and camping ministries such as ours.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our work away team! In addition to our typical summer camp operation, we also make bagged meals for lower-income families in central Maine, work at a community thrift store as a group once a week, create art projects such as stained glass, and help with maintenance and garden projects! We are a very active staff community looking to make the world a better place. Come and spend the summer with us!

Our workawayers will be living in an Exclusive Staff Area with the other permanent staff workers. We have Staff Cabins with 5 Bunk Rooms with private bathrooms, showers, and a shared common living room space! As well as access to a full kitchen area. You will have access to a stove, oven, microwave, and on-site washing/drying machines!
Workawayers who are interested can receive compensation for their work. We want to accommodate your preferences for this experience in terms of working hours, but we highly encourage and prefer June-Aug staff to work more hours weekly to gain the full summer camp experience in exchange for free living and salaried or hourly compensation! (Note: we can also assist in travel to and from the airport as well as shopping centers!)What else ...
If you enjoy the outdoors, our location would be a paradise for you. There are many beaches, thousands of lakes and islands to explore by foot. Maine gives plenty of opportunities for skiing, fishing, hiking, and boating. We have camping supplies available for weekend trips. Nearby we have many mountains and trails to choose from that are perfect for anywhere from a weekend backpacking trip or a quick sunset hike.
I would be happy to give volunteers rides into the local towns Augusta, Winthrop or Lewiston/Auburn.A little more information
