Description
Hi, my name is Kai.
Two very defining things about me are, that I am a long-time traveller, I started travelling in 2004 and have been visiting close to 50 countries so far with more than 10 years spent abroad, and that I am a Permaculturist. I discovered permaculture while travelling in Thailand and have volunteered in many places for years
Between 2008 and 2023 I have been working as a permaculture designer, consultant, educator and builder.
Last year I started studying landscape architecture at TU Berlin.
I am trying to live life in the most ethical way I can. I have been vegan for more than 5 years and have been vegetarian for 10 years before that and a conscious consumer even longer than that.
While I am in Berlin, I enjoy spending time in my allotment garden (only 10 minutes bike ride from Tempelhofer Feld) but I also really like to explore the city day and night and I do so as much as I can. I always look for the next rave and open-air or awesome party with great electronic music.
If you are into that, great! I am always looking for more people to go out with ;););)
My little house about 35m2 has a composting toilet, and a tiny shower, all grey water is reused in the garden and during the warm weather season a lot of food comes straight from the garden.
I have been developing the 400m2 plot for 6 years into a fertile and productive small urban food forest/permaculture garden. Naturally, there are always lots of things to do and improve...
I can usually only host people during the warm months of the year and only short term, since allotment gardens are quite regulated. The reconstruction of the house is not finished, and no idea when and if it will ;) but there is either an extra sleeping couch in the house or there is all-needed camping gear, tents and bedding available.
This winter, however ( 2024/2025) I have another place with an extra room for hosting.
Beyond this, (especially if you reside in Berlin) I can offer the space, my knowledge and skills and hands-on experiences or just some garden chats and sure enough vegan garden lunches ;) during the day.
I dream to eventually, co-create a permaculture education and entrepreneurship community/ impact hub in a more suitable warmer climate compared to northern Europe to develop and teach the necessary skills to live self-reliant and sustainably and to figure out and spread better, more just ways of integrating humans in the larger community of life on earth - if that sounds like your calling we should get in touch to make it happen ;)

This and next year aside from maintaining a productive garden and maintaining the household and daily vegan cooking, I will spend some time with DIY building projects around the house and garden.
The lists of construction and garden projects are long, so there is always something to do.
The most important support that I need is sharing the day-to-day responsibilities of the house and garden.
Such as watering plants, maintaining the household, harvesting and preparing meals etc.
If you are excited to learn and improve your knowledge on a broad scale of tasks around living a self-responsible and self-reliant lifestyle, especially about permaculture design thinking and living then you'll have the perfect mindset
and I am happy to share my skills and knowledge about each of them!

Accommodation
The small 35m2 basic garden house is all one-room. There is still a lot of work to do in and around the house, so it could look definitely much prettier but there hasn't been enough time and energy yet...
There is a dry composting toilet in the garden and a simple mobile bucket shower bath with about 20l of warm water for each shower that can be used either inside or outside depending on the weather. There is a sink inside and outside.
For sleeping there is a tent, a mattress, blankets and pillows to sleep in the garden alternatively there is an extra sleeping couch in the house.
It is a vegan home/ garden and I ask anybody (friends and family) not to bring non-vegan food or drinks here.
So there will only be vegan stuff here. ;) peace!
Much of the food we will have here is organic and during the growing season, much of it will come directly from the garden. What else ...
My favourite place and area in Berlin is just a 10 minute bike ride away, Tempelhofer Feld - the former airport that now is the largest inner city park of Europe and the bordering neighbourhoods of Neukölln with their colourful and bustling nightlife.
Just a little further you get to borough Kreuzberg that together with borough Neukölln are the most happening subcultural places in Berlin or in Germany really.
The is also a bus stop 170 & 277 & N77 just 3 minutes on foot and 8 minutes on foot to the subway U6. I'll have one spare bike that I can lend you so you are flexible to explore the city.A little more information
