Hey everyone, we are Niko and Carina and we live in Bosnia for several months every year. In the middle of the mountains, without neighbors, without electricity, but with the purest mountain spring water from our own spring, we enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounding mountain panorama, nature and peace. In this beautiful and magical place we renovated Niko's ancestors' house and also built some new objects. A bathhouse on stilts, a tree house, a summer kitchen and a small A-frame in the garden. It never gets boring.

We are in our early fifties and late thirties - open, sociable and we love bringing the country, people, language and culture closer to anyone interested. We like to be in company and we like to end a successful working day togehter after a hearty dinner, with wine and good conversations.

We’re always eager to share the beauty of Bosnia with our guests. Alongside the work, we enjoy introducing people to the local landscape, history, and way of life. Whether it’s sharing stories, explaining the traditions of our area, or taking you with us, to see the surroundings, to friends places or to the next town. We aim to provide a memorable experience that goes beyond just work.

You’ll have two days off per week, usually on Saturday and Sunday, depending on the weather and the tasks. If you are mobile, we will be happy to give you tips for excursions and things to do. Bosnia has a really beautiful landscape and has so much to offer! Since we live in a very remote location, you should know that we can only be reached via a gravel road and (unless you have an off-road vehicle) you have to walk the last few hundred meters down to us (and of course up again). If possible / by arrangement, we can pick you up and bring you from / to the next town.

We ourselves work on Saturdays, but are happy to do something with you on Sundays, if you want to and time allows. We have a large circle of friends with whom we regularly go on activities, and of course you can join us if you feel like it. We also speak the local language and are happy to take you on errands to give you a closer look at real life in the village. Of course, home visits to friends and a drink in our local pub are not to be missed.

    IN GENERAL:
We often need help with a variety of practical, hands-on tasks such as general maintenance, gardening, wood chopping, cleaning, and helping out in the kitchen with cooking and washing up. There are also frequently DIY projects around the property where an extra set of hands is always appreciated.

    THIS YEAR'S PROJECT:
This summer, we are restoring an old school – a beautiful, large stone house in the middle of nowhere, only accessible by a 45-minute jeep ride from our home.

There’s always something to do here, so feel free to tell us what you enjoy most:
    - Woodwork (sanding, painting, building)
    - General maintenance (mowing, tidying up, cleaning)
    - Food preparation (cooking, washing up)
    - Digging (e.g. for wastewater systems)

Anyone who loves untouched nature and unique places will truly fall in love with this magical spot.

    Accommodation

You get a room for yourself in the main house. We share the bathroom, it is on the lower floor and can be accessed via a path around the house. Thanks to our wood-fired bath heaters, no one has to take a cold shower. However, you should remember to bring a flashlight, because there is no electricity - apart from a solar panel for the refrigerator and a few solar lights for some coziness in the evening.

You should be aware that we are very remote and surrounded by nature. There are bears, wolves and also poisonous snakes. But don't worry, we haven't had any negative encounters so far. We also have no internet in the house and usually no cell phone reception either. When we go shopping to the next town once a week, we usually stop at the (internet) café.

Our day begins with a coffee together, where we take the time to discuss the plans for the day ahead. Then, we work for a few hours, taking regular breaks. In Bosnia, it’s traditional to have breakfast around 11 a.m. If you’d prefer a snack first thing in the morning or also in the afternoon, we’re happy to accommodate that as well. On days when we go to the old school, please note that travel time is not counted as working hours.

We believe in the importance of good food and prepare all meals with passion, using local, seasonal ingredients whenever possible.

DUE TO LOCAL CONDITIONS, WE UNFORTUNATELY HAVE NO OPTION TO COOK VEGAN OR TAKE INTOLERANCES INTO ACCOUNT.

    What else ...

If you would like to spend time with us and support us in our projects, please write to us. We are interested in what knowledge and experience you have, in which areas you can and would like to support us, what your strengths and interests are and what you expect from us.

Of course, we offer you free meals and overnight stays - and besides that a unique location, unforgettable starry skies, good conversations and lots of fun (we laugh a lot). In return, we hope for good mood, interest in our projects, the country and people, but also a motivated, hands-on mentality to create something together. We look forward to hearing from you!
