Hello!
We make surf ponchos, which are handmade here in our small fishing/surfing village.
Production:
Our customers can choose the colours of their ponchos themselves or select a poncho from our small stock. We order the fabric from Lima for production, and the rest is done here. We cut the fabric and then take it to our grandmothers to be sewn. Before our small surf poncho business existed, the grandmothers were much more dependent on working as cleaners in hotels, so it is a great relief for them to be able to work from home. They also get to see their grandchildren more often, as they come by with the fabric to be processed.
History:
It all started in 2022 when Kevyn and Ivan were busy with their studies. To finance this, they worked in restaurants here in Lobitos. Making the ponchos not only helped them financially, but also taught them how to build a small business from the ground up. We are still learning and are constantly faced with new challenges.
Our goals:
We are proud to say that we are creating jobs on our own initiative and thus contributing to the village's economy. Our goal is to inspire and motivate other locals to be entrepreneurial. Those who benefit from tourism in Lobitos are currently people who can afford to build a hotel, for example, and who therefore already enjoy a certain level of prosperity.
In Peru, much is centralised in Lima. With our project, we want to take a step in the opposite direction and show that it is also worthwhile to produce locally and that handicrafts should be more appreciated.
Sustainability is important to us, which is why we are happy to make the ponchos to order, so that the customer will hopefully be satisfied with the product for longer. In the future, we would therefore like to work with a more environmentally friendly fabric. Perhaps you can help us with this?
The team:
Kevyn (22) and Ivan (22) are both responsible for ordering, cutting and selling the ponchos. Ivan also does the bookkeeping. Both are true Lobiteños, born and raised in Lobitos. Kevyn is currently training to be a surf coach and is happy to give you a few surfing lessons, while Ivan is pursuing a career as an environmental engineer. They enjoy interacting with customers from all over the world, learning about other cultures from home, so to speak. Both are good surfers!
Then there are the two grandmothers: la señora Irma and la señora Mery. They sew the ponchos and know all the tricks to make them look good. They both come from fishing families and have deep roots in Lobitos. They always say that in the past, all clothes were sewn by hand. It is a joy for them to be able to use sewing machines again.
And last but not least, there is Tiita (34), who makes sure that the ponchos are well marketed on social media and in shops. Tiita has been living in Lobitos for 8 years. She is half Swiss and half Peruvian and loves Lobitos because of the people, the waves and the good food. She enjoys organising photo shoots with friends or tourists and working in the family-like team.

Wir stellen Surf Ponchos her, welche hier in unserem kleinen Fischer/Surfer Dorf handgemacht produziert werden.
Herstellung:
Unsere Kunden dürfen die Farben ihres Ponchos selber zusammenstellen oder ein Poncho aus unserem kleinen Stock auswählen. Zur Herstellung bestellen wir den Stoff aus Lima, der Rest wird hier gemacht. Wir schneiden den Stoff und bringen ihn dann zum Nähen zu unseren Grossmüttern. Bevor es unser kleines Unternhemen mit den Surf Ponchos gab, waren die Grossmütter viel mehr auf die Arbeit als Putzkraft in den Hotels angewiesen, daher ist es für sie eine grosse Erleichterung von Zuhause aus arbeiten zu können, ausserdem kriegen sie ihr Enkelkinder mehr zu Gesicht, da diese mit dem zu verarbeitendem Stoff vorbeikommen.
Geschichte:
Alles begann im 2022 als Kevyn und Ivan mit ihrem Studium beschäftigt waren. Um dies zu finanzieren, haben sie in Restaurants hier in Lobitos gearbeitet. Mit der Herstellung der Ponchos war ihnen nicht nur finanziell geholfen, auch haben sie gelernt ein kleines Unternhemen von Grund auf aufzubauen. Wir sind immer noch am lernen und werden immer wieder neue Herausforderungen gestellt.
Unsere Ziele:
Wir sind stolz sagen zu können, dass wir auf eigene Faust Arbeitsplätze schaffen und so zur Economy des Dorfes beitragen. Unser Ziel ist es andere Locals zu inspirieren und zu motivieren unternehmerisch zu sein. Die, die in Lobitos vom Tourismus profitieren sind zurzeit Leute, die sich leisten können bspw. ein Hotel zu bauen, also bereits aus gewissen Wohlstand kommen.
In Peru ist vieles auf Lima zentralisiert. Wir möchten mit unserem Projekt ein Schritt in die Gegenrichtung machen und zeigen dass es sich auch lohnt lokal zu produzieren und dass Handarbeit mehr geschätzt werden sollte.
Nachhaltigkeit ist uns wichtig, deshalb stellen wir die Ponchos gerne auf Wunsch her, so dass der Kunde hoffentlich länger mit dem Produkt zufrieden ist. In Zukunft würden wir daher gerne mit einem umweltfreundlicheren Stoff arbeiten, vielleicht kannst du uns dabei helfen?
Das Team:

Beide sind waschechte Lobiteños, geboren und aufgewachsen in Lobitos. Kevyn bildet sich momentan zum Surf Coach aus und gibt dir auch gerne ein paar Surflektionen und Ivan ist an seiner Karriere als Umweltingenieur. Sie mögen es mit den Kunden aus aller Welt in Kontakt zu kommen, sie lernen sozusagen von Zuhause aus andere Kulturen kennen. Beide sind gute Surfer!
Dann gibt es die zwei Grossmütter: la señora Irma und la señora Mery. Sie nähen die Ponchos und haben alle Tricks bereit um die Ponchos gut aussehen zu lassen. Sie kommen beide aus Fischerfamilien uns sind fest in Lobitos verwurzelt. Sie erzählen immer, dass man früher alle Kleider von Hand genäht hat. Es ist eine Freude für Sie die Nähmaschinen wieder aktivieren zu können.
Und zu guter Letzt gibt es Tiita (34), sie schaut dass die Ponchos auf social media und in den Shops gut vermarktet werden. Tiita wohnt seit 8 Jahren in Lobitos, sie ist halb Schweizerin halb Peruanerin und liebt Lobitos wegen den Leuten, den Wellen und das gute Essen. Es macht ihr Spass die Fotoshootings mit Freunden oder Touristen zu organisieren und in dem familiären Team zu arbeiten.

The village of Lobitos itself has a wonderful, very welcoming community; newcomers are quickly made to feel at home. Here you'll find a wide variety of activities such as fishing, surfing, jiu-jitsu, painting, pottery, yoga, horseback riding, skating (there are two skateparks), and more. We'd love to show you around. Tiita plays in a band, so let us know if you're musically inclined. We'd also be happy to show you how to cook delicious Peruvian food and what Chacota is :-) Surfing is an integral part of our daily lives, and Kevyn would be happy to give you surf lessons :-)
Das Dorf Lobitos an sich hat eine tolle Gemeinschaft, die sehr offen ist, man wird als Neuling schnell aufgenommen. Hier findet man viele verschiedene Aktivitäten wie Fischen, Surfen, Jiu Jitsu, Malen, Töpfern, Yoga, Reiten, Skaten (es gibt 2 skateparks), etc. Wir führen dich gerne rum. Tiita spielt in einer Band, lass uns wissen falls du musikalisch bist. Gerne zeigen wir dir auch wie man lecker peruanisch kocht. Und was Chacota ist :-) Surfen ist ein fester Bestandteil unseres Alltags, Kevyn gibt dir auch gerne Surfunterricht :-)

Du kriegst ein eigenes Zimmer. Es gibt eine gut ausgestattete Küche und ein Wohnzimmer mit Blick aufs Meer. Du wirst am gleichen Ort wohnen wie Tiita und zwar bei einem Hostel das von einer sehr netten Familie geführt wird. Sie haben ebenfalls Volunteers. Das ganze ist direkt am Meer.
You'll have your own room. There's a well-equipped kitchen and a living room with a sea view. You'll be staying in the same place as Tiita, at a hostel run by a very nice family. They also have volunteers. The whole place is right on the beach.
