    Description

I'm Indira , having volunteered as an animal rescuer in the United kingdom for several years,I utilized my experience to work with a few animal welfare organisations in Sri Lanka striving to find loving homes and to provide a transit shelter for abandoned cats and dogs. I attempted to find a solution to the increasing feral cat population,as the situation had worsened due to negligence and ignorance. Many people do not want to take cats as pets and while the government has an island wide sterilization and vaccination programme for dogs, there are no such measures taken for cats. Therefore , I started using my own money to conduct sterilization programmes and Re-home cats over the past 10 years.

The programme was established in 2011 is an extension of this initiative as I realized the need for a more organised,wide-reaching programme to aid animals.
My Shelter for animals is located in a one acre plot of land,a lone building and a large yard, divided into spacious enclosures house cats and dogs separately. The transit home has a large number of cats ,adult dogs and puppies where the numbers fluctuate ,either increasing or decreasing as people opt to adopt.
The enclosure is home to several disabled dogs and cats who need special care.
There are two workers who help me with the day to day running of the compound. And I provide two meals per day to the animals, morning and evening besides the constant pampering of pet food that the cats and dogs receive. However, it is difficult to maintain sch a large number of animals on her own and there are not that many people willing to assist. I require additional resources to maintain and look after these adorable animals. They need medicine, vaccination and food and it is hard for me to handle by my own.

They can learn about the life of stray animals in Sri Lanka and also the different ideas and views people have about having animals around them. And also since I'm doing mass sterilization camps around the country these volunteers can visit different places in the country and collect ideas and experience about different environments and culture. You can discover the beauty of Sri Lanka, the friendly people, and food, the land.

    Help

I will be more than happy if i can get help and support of veterinary doctors/nurses and help and suport of people who are kind , caring animal lovers, for the shelter and to help me with any fundraising projects, accounts and promoting adoptions among international and local animal lovers and to conduct mass sterilization camps , awareness programmes as well. If volunteers can come and help me to treat the animals, to spend time with them for a awhile, to medicate them , to support my helper to feed them and manage the shelter that will be a great help.
