    Description

We are a Cuban/Norwegian couple who is running a guesthouse placed on a remote island on the coast of Finnmark, northern Norway: It is aprox. one and a half hour from the Alta Airport. In the summer we can see the midnight sun and, in the winter, the northern lights.
The House was a boarding school and when they closed in January 2011, we saw an opportunity to realize a dream of starting an event and conference venue out of the ordinary.
Since then, we have refreshed and rebuild the place, as a sustainable way to give value to this especial building in the middle of stunning nature.
In 2018 we began to analyse the enormous potentialities of the House to become a full year tourist destination. As a result of this, we initiated investments to rebuild our facilities and create new activities.
During all these years the House has become a meeting place not only for tourists. From all over the world come to Seiland volunteers engaged by the landscapes, remoteness, silence, peace and wilderness in the nature of this place.
In our guesthouse we offer accommodation in 6 full equipped apartments and 11 single and double rooms with access to toilet and warm shower. We have 7 fishing boats to rent, a restaurant where we offer meals with capacity to 50 pax and a bar. For groups, we have also a conference room up to 50 pax and outdoor bath/sauna.
We need help in daily business and we are looking for a couple living with varied skills, flexible enough to work separately when needed. It is very important that our helpers are independent and have the ability to see the work, take initiatives and activate themselves in the free time.
On the island there are great possibilities for all kind of outdoor activities like hiking in the mountains, sea and lake fishing, skiing, visiting the glacier on Seiland National Park or going to harvest berries and mushrooms. If you like to go trekking, our friendly dog will be excited to join you :0) Due to the silence, it's also a great place to think, meditate and slow down.
    IMPORTANT
Please remember that helpers must be responsible to ensure that they have the correct visa, work permits and keep updated with the corona rules changes.
We offer a free accommodation plus a monetary payment for at least the minimun wage for the hours you work with us.

Like Stig is a guide he can introduce you into the local history, the Sami culture, the legends about the nature, the traditional Norwegian food and customs. Diamela and her 12 years old son Denis can tell you how it is to live as Cubans in Norway and talk also about the traditions in their homeland 😊
Our team is multicultural and you have the chance to practice different languages.
There is just a few people living in this part of the island (At around 12 between Altneset and Hakkstabben), so, it is not always possible to interchange with locals but when there is a chance they are friendly and happy to meet new people.
In your free time you can travel around Alta and Finnmark to enjoy the beauty and silence in this wild and amazing nature. We can give you tips about relevant places to visit.
