Description
I am Onur, born in 1988 in Istanbul. I am a poet and painter. I also have a Ph.D. degree in Sociology and worked as an academic for a while at Koç University. I moved to Muğla 5 years ago. I live with a dog named Milo and a cat named Puhu. I have been vegan since 2014.
I established this place in 2026 on a land looking over the Gulf of Gökova. It is off-grid. The nearest town is Akyaka, around 15 kms away. Since 2023, I have managed to construct roads to the land, an ancient Carian-style amphitheatre, a geodesic dome (to be a library and working space), a camper trailer for guests, a small storehouse, an artificial pond where I collect rainwater, and a beautiful terrace with a view of the Gulf of Gökova. So far I have organised a few concerts at the amphitheatre with studio-quality recordings as well as philosophy meetings and artist gatherings.
I aim to transform this place into a space as ecologically self-subsistent as it can be. The electricity is provided by an off-grid system with solar panels. Each year I collect olives on the land and produce olive oil. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
- I am a painter. We can paint together. I can share my paints, canvases, and practical knowledge. I can also share my knowledge regarding art history.
- I am a Sociologist with a PhD degree. I also have an academic interest in history and philosophy. I can give you insights about local communities and Turkish society. I have a library with a considerable amount of fiction and non-fiction books in English that you can borrow and read during your stay.
- Many artists, scientists, and learned people visit my land, so you can most probably meet them and experience live music sessions, interesting talks, and art workshops. -
Help
Since the land is semi-wild and still very much a work in progress, there are endless — though not infinite — things to do. All kinds of arts, crafts, practical skills and creative ideas are welcome.
I am currently planning to level the stage of the amphitheatre and create a mosaic at its centre. The garden needs regular tending, and I plan to plant more trees, particularly in October and March. I also want to create spaces for painting and sculpture workshops and, eventually, establish a small music studio for music sessions. I am currently gathering the necessary equipment.
The storehouse also needs some maintenance, and I would like to build an outdoor composting toilet and shower.
The kinds of help needed include, but are not limited to:
* Carpentry and other woodworking
* Gardening and permaculture practices
* Cooking, cleaning and other daily routines
* Planting and caring for trees
* Maintaining and developing the amphitheatre
* Mosaic and other forms of outdoor art
* Building and maintaining workshop spaces
* Basic maintenance and repairs
* Helping to set up the music studio
* Creative arts and crafts of all kinds -

I can teach you Turkish, which is my native language. I can help you with your English if that's not your native language, or otherwise, I can learn from you. I am looking forward to improving my Spanish that I learned at the University of Havana in Cuba, but I forgot a considerable amount of the grammar and vocabulary. -
Accommodation
I have a camper trailer 20 meters away from the dome. It can host a person or a couple. It has a kitchen with a sink and oven as well as a small camper refrigerator. The trailer has its own solar panels, but if it is not enough, I can provide electricity from my off-grid system. I can provide clean sheets, pillows, and everything that a bedroom requires. I have a washing machine in the dome that you can use. It has a camper toilet with a detent hold. The dome has a bathroom with hot water and a toilet with the standard water system that you can use if you'd prefer. I should emphasize that water is a scarce resource here, so we should use it responsibly.
Basic ingredients, local seasonal food, and kitchen utensils will be provided as part of the exchange, with arrangements discussed according to individual needs and preferences. Workawayers are also welcome to bring and prepare their own food. Workawayers have free use of the kitchen in the dome and are welcome to prepare their own meals. When our schedules allow, I enjoy cooking and sharing meals together. -
What else ...
TRANSPORTATION:
If you arrive by plane at Dalaman Airport, you should take a bus to Gökova, where I will pick you up. Otherwise, I can pick you up from Akyaka.
Akyaka is the nearest town where you can find groceries, markets, etc. My land is 15 kilometers away from that town, and you can only reach it by car. Most of the time, I go to the Akyaka town bazaar on Wednesday and the Gökova town bazaar on Saturday that I can take you to and from.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
I should also emphasize that my land is NOT a controlled natural space. It is a wild land. Weather conditions such as heat (especially in the summer), heavy rains, strong winds, and storms can be hard.
FEW RULES:
- I am vegan, but I am not strict. I would be really happy if you only bring vegan products. But if you bring non-vegan products, please take them with you when you are leaving.
- Please bring only organic, biodegradable, or biocompatible products such as soaps, shampoos, detergents, etc. These will go directly either to the soil or to the compost pit.
- The land is on a slope, so that it can be dangerous for kids.
- You can bring your pets if they get along with other dogs and cats, since I have a cat, Puhu, and a dog, Milo (albeit at times, I take care of my parents' dog, Sakız, for a short period of time). -
