    Description

We are a semi retired couple who made the leap 4 years ago to off grid living on 10 acres of virgin bush. It is a peaceful relaxing retreat environment surrounded by kangaroos, native birdlife.. our peace of paradise. We have built 2 tiny houses a shed and just moved into our new home.
We are establishing gardens, a greenhouse, orchard areas, lawns, fencing for our little miniature pygmy goat family of 4!
Chickens and coup are next on the list and appropriate fencing and farm type boundary fencing.

There are plenty of tasks we would love help with, if you have farm, gardening, building or just weeding and collecting fallen sticks into wood piles, cleaning around the house or cars would be great.

We love hosting friends here from interstate and international. We have family and friends visit often. We are non smokers and require volunteers to be non smokers too. We live in a high fire danger area so this is very important.

We have volunteered ourselves for 3 months in France so we know what it's like to have a great host to make the experience extra special.

We have 4 adult children who live close by and 4 grandchildren. Our property is very central to Newcastle beaches, Lake Macquarie and Hunter Valley vineyard area.
We are Not within walking distance to public transport ( your own car would be beneficial) however we are 10 Min drive to train station and bus routes.
We also love showing guests our beautiful surrounds in our spare time.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Volunteers helping with gardening on our 10-acre property will also enjoy a hands-on cultural experience in the Australian bush. We have goats, share practical building and maintenance skills, explore the surrounding native landscape, and were welcome volunteers to be part of our everyday family life, including meeting friends and neighbours learning our way of life in Australia and hope to hear about our volunteers culture through shared stories.
We love hosting travellers, we have traveled ourselves and best memories we have are those staying with people in their home/ community, getting to know their friends and families. We offer this experience.
We love playing cards, movie/ games nights , relaxing in the pool in summer & fire pit gatherings (in winter).

You would be helping my hubby mostly, he is here all the time, he has a building background and so much knowledge and skills in so many areas that he will share, he requires help with all his projects from fencing, decks, setting up chicken coup, gardening, weeding, stuck/ wood piles collection, cleaning around the house and cars.We are hoping you will learn from us and you will have skills we can learn from you.
We are learning to set up Permaculture, eco friendly sustainable lifestyle here, you will learn skills that we have this far about irrigation, harnessing all our water, storing it , being mindful of not wasting it, you will learn how our solar system and battery room is set up and provides all our power. We have a worm farm septic system which is super interesting to learn about. We are learning how to compost and make our own soil, we are novices and also hope we can learn from our volunteers if they have skills in these areas.
