Visitors will be able to experience a more authentic side of Bali, while actively engaging in art and making mosaics, cleaning projects, gardening and doing some renovations of the property, and learning new skills. Shankari’s Artist Sanctuary is the perfect place for people wanting to tune into their creative side and step back from the city chaos. Just up the road (15 min walk) there is a market with local Balian fresh fruit, food stands, and stores for toiletries, etc. You will learn to live like a local! The sanctuary attracts a wide variety of people from around the world, it’s a beautiful place to get to know yourself and others!

We are looking for motivated individuals/couples who are ready to get their hands dirty (literally!). We have various projects every day that may involve learning and creating beautiful mosaics (see photos), photography of Shankari’s jewelry, helping with social media updates and uploads, painting projects, landscaping, and keeping shared spaces clean. Shankari holds a meeting at 1pm to inspire you for the day and to delegate jobs for the day! Tell us what you can provide! There is always room for improvement and communication is key. Wayan is the work manager and you will go to him for questions about work.
Workawayers are expected to keep shared areas clean (mop floors when dirty, do your own dishes, take the garbage out of the kitchen and bathrooms when needed, etc.). This is a community- we all work together! We are also actively engaging in keeping our carbon footprint as small as possible…think green and reuse everything you can. Ex. keep paper products to start campfires, compost your food waste, reuse water bottles for mosaic tile storage, etc.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

**depending on availability and if you are a single person or a couple** you will be provided a dormitory style room or a private room. There are a couple of different areas for sleeping arrangements- most are dormitory style with individual 1.5 or double beds, all with mosquito nets.

A reminder that we are in Southeast Asia where it rains frequently and the humidity is high…expect water and moisture! Be ready for tropical island living - there are large open spaces with bamboo blinds and cold showers, a welcome relief from the humidity. WHEN IT RAINS, pull your bamboo blinds down so the rooms don’t get wet!! Please message other Workawayers who left feedback if you want to know more.

Your room is in exchange for 3 hrs of work per day per person either morning or afternoon. This is flexible as long as you communicate! Just a reminder that there is no food, drinking water, or toiletries provided. However, up the road, there are some small stores and a market with everything you should need. Ask Wayan or Nur for fresh linen at the end of each week if needed. You are always welcome to bring your own linen too.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There will be a message sent to you that includes all of the major details about transport. **Some key notes** The beach is about a 10-minute walk away. You pass many restaurants and food stands that are affordable and provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. MAKE SURE to come with enough cash to last your stay. There are ATMs available but they don’t always work. You can get by with very little cash in the village ($10 a day or less) but bear in mind extra activities cost more (drinking beer, renting a bike, surfing, etc.). LAUNDRY-there is a laundromat up the road. There is WiFi available that works best on the 2nd floor.

On Friday evening Shankari provides a family dinner party, food prepared by Nur (the best cook in Bali). **I am a workaway writing this and I can confirm this is the best food I’ve had in Bali** After, you will participate in a talent show with all workawayers to get to know one another and face your fears. Have some fun! There is a swimming pool on the property available to use and relax around, a river next to the house, and a beach close by. There are scooters available to rent if you ask Nur and you are free to explore the surrounding areas in your free time. There are plenty of waterfalls, beaches, and restaurants to explore and enjoy! You are able to surf on local beaches and a great one for learning is about 20 min scooter ride away. Please be careful!
