Description
This is a homestead located in the middle of the fjords of Norway. On our farm we have a small herd of goats, some honeybees, some chickens and a few cats. It is a lovely place :)
We are actually quite a few residents of the farm at the moment; Hermund (43), Inger (43), Johannes (24), Andreas (23), Sunniva (20), Solveig (17) and Eskil (11). For a visual impression of the farm I can recommend you check out Ingers instagram. Just search for "havfurua" and you should find her account :)
Our place is not our livelihood, nor is it a commercial business, but more our way of living life a little greener. No help with paying guests is requested.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We live in a place of culture where we are trying to build good lives around us. We look to old norse culture for inspiration and add to this by other cultural practices that we find fun, amusing, interesting or meaningful.
We are ourselves eager to travel for the purpose of cultural exchange. While Hermund, Inger, Andreas and Solveig have all worked as teachers or tutors - we are here for a mutual learning experience; be it language, cuisine, practices or other.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
The farm has a total of 7 buildings - 2 of them are residentials for humans, 2 are residentials for animals and then there is a boathouse, a workshop and a smokery for curing meat.
The list of tasks needed at a farm is essentially endless, but there is always need for attendance of;
- road & ditch
- water
- animals
- harvest of hay and shrubbery
- general maintenance
- firewood for winter
- herbs & vegetables
- making dinner togetherLanguages

The accommodation is of pretty basic standard.
We have an older residential building from 1919; in the first floor Solveig has her separate apartment and in the second floor there are 3 bedrooms of approx equal size. They are approx 10 m2, so little space for anything but a bed and a cabinet for clothes.
Other facilities on the farm are shared, but if you have a wish or a need there is a separate kitchen available. What else ...
Having a farm is not something we do full time or as a source of income. Its a leisure way of life. We do not lack in purpose and efforts may sometimes be physically challenging as we do most of the farm work without use of much machinery. We will not expect you to put in more than a handful of hours daily, so make sure you bring an interest for developing your own projects too:
- Perhaps you share some of Inger & Solveigs interests with music and singing?
- Perhaps you would like to hone your skills in the smithy?
- Do you enjoy exploring new and old cuisine?
- There is always space in the farm for more art!
- The opportunities for activity in nature are quite special. If you are into extreme sports then Voss is a short drive away. If you prefer the tranquil calm there is deep fjord and steep rising mountains with all the space anyone could need.
For transports we would recommend to travel to Bergen first, from the main bus station busses go daily to our farm. This bus takes approx 2 hours.
Alternatively if it is easier for you to get to Oslo, you take the train to Voss. There are daily busses from Voss too. This bus takes approx 1 hour. Other local and regional transport typically require either a car or a bit of planning.A little more information
Internet access
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Can host families
Can host digital nomads
Yes! We have a fiber connection offering high speed uploads and wifi coverage of all residential areas. Setting up a space for a desk for home office in a private area should not be difficult. If you do bring your own computer there is also access to computers in a shared area, but this space is rather noisy! :)
Space for parking camper vans
Possible! The road up to our farm can be demanding for a larger campervan/caravan, but if you can make it up the 300m long road then there is a private space on a road in the woods for you.
Can possibly accept pets
Possible! We are weary of accepting pets, but send us a message and we will see what we can do.
