    Description

We are an organisation that works with the vulnerable in the slums of Nairobi. We have been active for over 10 years focusing our efforts in providing education, feeding and empowering communities.

Our Foundation opened a small school in 2008; since then, we've been able to support over 5000 children. In Kenya, education is supposed to be free but the reality is far from it. Families have to cover many extra charges such as: the enrollment fee, uniforms, desks, general school material, books, food, etc.
Most of the families living in the slums can't afford the costs and therefore, the number of kids attending school are very low. We are trying our best to provide the help that these families need.

Besides the school, we also run a feeding program. Our school provides meals to all the students attending but also we try to help the families that are struggling the most within the community. Some of our families that benefit from this program find themselves in very complicated positions which brings desperation and results in young girls doing what they can to earn any money they can to eat or provide food for their family. This usually leads to young pregnancies which means more mouths to feed around the table.

Education is the key to stop the loop from repeating through generations. This takes us back to our main goal, putting EDUCATION FIRST.

We believe in gender equality and women's empowerment, social justice and equity. Our NGO doesn't only provide academic education but also social and life skills to be able to change and improve the way our society works.

This is an LGBTQ+ friendly environment.

    Help

If you would like to help us out in the school; we will be welcome all kind of teachers. We would also appreciate if you can bring with you any school material you are able to or second hand computers, tablets, etc.
If you are not a teacher but you love children and would like to collaborate in the school, you can help out during the breaks by playing with the students; getting involved in arts & crafts activities; distributing food during lunch time or simply help out doing general maintenance around the school.

Another volunteer profile we really need is someone with knowledge in marketing, graphics, webs design, community management, advertisement, fundraising... We have our own website but we need to make it more attractive and spread the word to raise the awareness of what our organization is working on.

At the moment, our next goal is to build a boarding school for those that not only need education but also a safe shelter to live in. We are aiming at rescuing nearly 4000 under aged girls from whom a high percentage have been abused and have become pregnant. Our aim is not only to provide a safe environment for the young mothers but also for the babies.
They deserve the opportunity of getting an education and a chance in life.

Due to the lack of government aid, getting funds can be very difficult. We rely on crowdfunding campaigns and general donations. We are in workaway because we believe in the art of sharing and having volunteers here with us has helped us in many ways.
