Hello from the magic forest :-) we have a small (2.5 ha) farm that we are lovingly restoring one step at a time and would love some help . We are a travelling couple in our late 20’s that decided to set down some roots and create our own off-grid paradise to call home. We are just starting out - learning as we go!
Previously a eucalyptus forest we are restoring and rejuvenating the land back to its original state : landscaping, cultivating and clearing along the way.
There are alot of tasks/projects we have exciting plans for : aswel as general maintenance/clearing of the land that we are in desperate need of help with. We also have an old barn we are looking to renovate in the near future. We try to vary each day and take in as much of the natural beauty living amongst nature provides - laughing as much as possible …
We would love another couple or two friends that are interested in living off grid in nature that are reliable and willing to get stuck in. Own transport (car/bike/campervan) would be great as there are a lot of historic sights/ lakes/ fun to be had in the area and not all are in walking distance (but fairly close). We live next to a beautiful mountain that is crowned by a castle and adorned with a village like no other, providing one of the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen.
We provide 3 meals a day on work days: breakfast is usually toast with spreads and or cereals/fruit. Cooked meals will be vegetarian.

As enthusiastic travellers ourselves that love to learn, you could benefit from our many experiences that we enjoy sharing. If you have a keen interest in history ( as we do) then our location is central to many incredible sights. Living nearby to Monsanto- dubbed one of "the most portuguese villages in Portugal" - A Castle once governed by the Knights Templar and many ancient churches dating back to the early years of christianity. You can also visit a fossil walk with beautiful specimens or partake in frequent portuguese festivals that provide good food, music and celebration. There are also many new skills to be learnt as you join us in creating something special. We welcome all nationalities and languages as we are also interested in learning and have been workdays ourself around the world and know the value of diversity.
We have a small vegetable garden that is always in need of maintenance that we are looking to expand. This includes creating new garden beds and also seeding new vegetables and seeding trees to be planted the following year.
We are in current need of a water tank and also maintenance on some existing storage tanks as water is our biggest priority on the land. We also have plans to renovate our barn and are constantly creating structures out of round wood, which we have in abundance. We are also interested in experimenting with earth bags and other eco friendly forms of building.
We have a lot of regrowth from the many trees we have already cut on our land, which needs to be regularly cut back as we do not use any chemicals on our land and would like the stumps to rot out naturally, putting back what it has taken from the soil.
We are working towards dreams of a food forest with lots of fruit and nut trees replacing the previous eucalyptus that was left wild on our land : however, we have still not fully cut all of the remaining unwanted eucalyptus trees and are in need of help cutting and then stripping the poles so that they can be stored for building material. Everything gets recycled! we would also like to create more water retention in the form of swales and the clearing of old existing water channels that run through all of our terraces.
We have a small cabin that holds a double bed that can also fit a single in for two people sharing. If you have your own camper van we have space to park up.
There are many lakes nearby for a place to cool down and enjoy a refreshing swim.
