    Description

Welcome to our picturesque Valencian *barraca* (traditional farmhouse), located at the foot of Calderona Natural Park Mountains. We are Adam and Ricardo, and we live here with our little dog, Wasabi. This is a gay/queer (LGBT+) space; we are particularly keen to connect with and host volunteers from within the community, as well as active allies. We are passionate about permaculture, we moved here to fulfill our dream of living in the midst of a forest garden that provides us with organic food—striving for a more sustainable life in harmony with the environment.

We are looking for individuals who feel a connection to nature, who value caring for their body and mind through conscious diet, and who are non-smokers. This is an intimate, home-like environment; we host only one volunteer at a time, so you won’t be part of a large group and you will have your private room.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We can show you how technology can be a great ally in permaculture. We take an empirical and technical approach, integrating soil moisture sensors connected to a smart weather station that manages irrigation and maximizes water and atmospheric resources.

We also have a passion for international cuisine—cooking and sharing recipes from around the world, including food preservation and fermentation techniques.

We are bilingual in English and Spanish, so we can practice either language on a daily basis.

In our free time, we love doing yoga and meditation, going for walks in the mountains with our neighbors and dogs and watching films at night.

We are always open to learning about your culture, your knowledge of plants, your own cooking recipes, and any technical or creative skills you might bring.

We moved here recently and are currently in a phase of growth and expansion, so the work is very varied—there is always something to do, whether in the food forest, on DIY projects, or with daily household tasks. We will work side by side; this shared time is a great opportunity to exchange knowledge, techniques, and skills. We value quality time and living well together.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We get around by bicycle; we don’t have a car. Once a day, a public bus drives you to a metro station, where you can catch the train to Valencia city center. It takes about half an hour cycling to get from our place to this metro station. There are also local groceries shops, farmacy and bakeries around, near the villages. There is another town, which offers a full range of shops and supermarkets, 25-minute bike ride away. Being located on the edge of a natural park, you have access to incredible mountain trails through the wilderness.

Our lifestyle requires a degree of independence. Without a car, you will rely on your bicycle for running errands, exploring the area, or reaching the metro on weekends. If you enjoy nature, cycling, and a quiet, self-sufficient lifestyle away from the noise of the city, this is the place for you.
