We are a young family with a 3 year old girl and just recently bought a 17th century watermill in France near Brantome.
I am originally from Hungary but my wife is English and our daughter is bilingual. We are all learning French. I am a forester by trade but I have been running a building company in London for nearly 10 years. My wife is an art director and have been in the media for more than 12 years.
Our new home is situated on over two hectares of land part of which is a wooded island surrounded by the river Cole. We are planning to build 4 completely eco friendly tree houses on the island and rent them out to guests as our main income in the future.
We will be working on the main house to start with as it's not quite habitable. We will start by replacing the roof tiles and repair the roof structure. Simultaneously (depending on how many helping hands we get) we start preparing the soil in the vegetable garden, plant fruit trees, build fences, look after our small livestock (chicken, goat and pigs) renovate the garden, restore the stonework of our original 300 year old outdoor bread oven(!), build a bridge over the river, restore the water wheel etc. to mention some of the most important jobs. We can use part of the house for accommodation and also our vintage 1959 american airstream caravan. There is a fully functional bathroom in the house and central heating.
Please let us know if you are interested in being part of this project and we will be happy to teach you English/Hungarian, carpentry work, stone masonry skills, interior design, gardening, eco systems, cooking, farming, restoration etc.
