    Description

*At the moment, we need help with pruning. If you’re interested in kiwis, come and learn all about them! In February, we’ll be planting potatoes and preparing the entire field to grow a variety of crops.
We only host people who speak Spanish or Galician, especially this year since I (Ana) am living in São Paulo and cannot assist with translations.
We are looking for individuals who are genuinely eager to learn and who take the time to write personalized messages. We are a humble family, far removed from the social media world, who value deep conversations and a humanitarian spirit*

We are a very open minded family looking for a helping hand that loves the nature and agriculture as much as we do :)
We are Ana and Manolo (my parents) and me. My name is Ana and I am studying Chemical Engineering in Santiago and come home every weekend to help my parents, meet my friends, and to take you around :) I have 2 sisters but they are now living and working abroad, you might meet them if they are around when you come.

We live in a small village 5 min away by car from the sea. Our village is Comoxo and the town Boiro.

My mom is an ace of cooking and handywork! She is good at making traditional Galician dishes and Christmas decoration with plants from the forest, she also makes beautiful floral crowns for my friends and I to go to the traditional parties here in summer. She is also patient to teach the people Spanish, if she sees that you are enthusiastic and a hardworking person ;) She takes care of an elderly woman in Boiro in the morning and in the afternoon she gives love to our garden.

My dad is an egghead! Even though at the beginning he would look a bit serious, after 2 days working with him you will already know all the history of our house, village, his political ideology and also a lot about agriculture, forestry and botanics. He is at the moment pruning the kiwi trees so if you are really interested into kiwis you should come the 2 last weeks of February, as he will finish pruning, tying the brunches and do a graftage of a new kiwi species, the golden kiwifruit :D We are very excited about this!

To sum up, we like hardworking and enthusiastic people that REALLY LIKE GARDENING and have read the whole profile. We prefer to host people that are 26 years old or more and if you are a surfer I'll be more than happy to host you as I really want to improve my surfing. We are flexible with schedules and you can either wake up early in the morning and do the 5h all together to have the afternoons free or help a bit in the morning and a bit in the afternoon. You'll have 2 days free, you can choose when. We usually do everything together, have breakfast, lunch and dinner together. If you are a more independent person you can also tell us, but in Spain it is really common to enjoy our meals together.

You can learn Spanish and Galician from my parents, as they don't speak any other language than Spanish and Galician. It is very important that you have a good level in Spanish to volunteer with us, or at least if your level is basic but you really want to improve your Spanish mention it in the message please.
I will come home every weekend and can show you some nice places around. I love to bike so we can also do it together if you also like sports or you can use my bike during the week when I am not there. I also love to surf, if the waves are nice and you are a surfer we can go together. I also love to bake with my mom, we sometimes make some really nice cakes, get ready!
You will also learn a lot about agriculture, we love nature and my parents have been working in this area for many years. Also, a lot of family members and neighbours ask us for advice as Manolo, my dad, is very good at graftage!

We have a huuuuge garden with many different kinds of fruits and vegetables, from the most exotic to the most traditional here in Galicia. We grow kiwis, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, lemons, oranges, clementines, leeks, tamarillos, raspberries, strawberries, feijoas, figs, chestnuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pomegranates, peaches, pears, apples, cherries, loquats, strawberry trees, and many other fruits that you will see when you come here :)
We also have vineyards and make ecological wine. We make wine like romans used to do it, stomping the grapes with our feet, would you also like to try it?

    Mainly we need help with:
-Removing weeds at the garden and tilling the soil when needed. We need help giving love to our garden :)
-Friday's harvest. At the end of the week we always harvest our fruits for consumption.

I am also quite creative, I paint and I've been designing bags. I've also created an account on IG where I share recipes with our fruit and everything that has to deal with Galician rural life and sustainability.
I am also interested in web design, as an engineering student I learned a bit but I still have a lot to learn, hopefully we can exchange knowledges, I teach you agriculture and a bit of construction, and you teach me graphic design, photography and web design ;)

I would also like to build a composting toilet, so if you have carpentry skills, you'll be our next workawayer :D

With your free time you can do whatever you want. You can visit many places around here, there are a lot of beautiful destinations, for example Fervenza de Cadarnoxo, which is a waterfall that you can reach by walking or by bike, Castros de Baroña by the coast and Mirador da Curota, where you get some really nice views of Ría de Arousa estuary. Porto do Son is also a very nice area if you like surfing, you can also do kayak, rowing or any other sport that you would like. Pontevedra and Santiago de Compostela are not far away (40 min by car). And then Coruña and Vigo are a little further but not too distant. You can also use my bike and bike around the coast, it is beautiful!
It will be better if you have your own car/van, as the best places here in Galicia are not reachable with public transport.
The village can be a bit quiet and boring, so I can also give you some contacts of friends of mine that live in Boiro or even the neightbours will be very interested to get to know you. I have two little neighbours that are very nice and funny, sometimes we also do acroyoga at the terrace when the weather is nice, they love it!
