Geoff and I (Rosemary) have lived here for over thirty years bringing up our young family and restoring our big old house (1640 origins) and garden. We have interests varying from restoring old volkswagens and a Willy's jeep, painting, sewing , history, craftwork. The garden continues to grow and house maintenance is never ending. We also have a wooded area in total 1.9 hectares. We now have grandchildren all living nearby and would like to spend more time with them. We live at the southern end of the Cotswolds, a beautiful part of England, for landscape, nature, history. We speak some French and German and some of the grandchildren are learning Spanish. Although we don't own any pets, we have a dog and guineapigs on site.
Sadly since I wrote this the young dog has died....but both my daughters have dogs who visit.

We have had many years of hosting visitors from all parts of the world, mostly school age, as well as older working students here to immerse themselves in an English way of life.....even their parents at times. We encourage them to practise their language skills and to show them our wonderful countryside and rich cultural heritage. We've kept a visitors' book which is testimony to the fun we and our guests have experienced. Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and Cheltenham are all within about thirty miles (50km) radius..our house was built around 1640 so would interest students of history. We have a house full of books, paintings.
We need help in various areas, from keeping the place in running order, cleaning, repairing, updating, some woodwork, painting building. In the garden cutting/trimming of hedges, shrubs, weeding, pruning, planting, harvesting, lawn mowing and woodland maintenance including clearance, logging, replanting. Rebuilding of drystone walls typical of the area, making garden pathways and edges safe. We also preserve garden produce. Being enthusiastic and ready and willing to join in with whatever is required at the time, possibly to share/practise languages.
French and German, ( quite rusty,)
Accommodation is on the second/ top floor, possibility for two or three to share. Two rooms are spacious although low ceilings.all bedding and towels are included. Mealtimes are generally taken together downstairs in the kitchen. Breakfast usually consists of cereals and toast, a light lunch and dinner in the evening. We have a varied diet, including plenty of vegetables , whatever is available from the garden. We have catered for all kinds of dietary needs in the past but it helps to be warned of any dislikes or allergies beforehand! We've enjoyed exchanging recipes with our visitors, as well as taking turns/helping with preparation and clearing up. We have a piano, television and Internet which works but with room for improvement.. We have space to play tennis, badminton and ball games.
Our house is a mile from the nearest town accessed by a busy main road although no public transport . Wonderful walking area. Nailsworth is a small town with everything! Butchers, bakers, hardware, delicatessen, clothes, shoes, with friendly folk and lots of clubs, societies to cater for a variety of interests. From Nailsworth there is a good bus service every half hour most of the day to Gloucester, about an hour's wonderfully scenic ride on a double decker bus. Stroud, a thriving market town, centred on five valleys is five miles/about 8km also has a railway station, 2hours to London as well as swimming pool, cinema, clubs is on the same bus route. Depending on time and interest, l usually drive around the area to show the landscape and access places not served by public transport. Previous visitors have described our home as 'rambling,' 'quirky,'romantic,' 'a retreat,' 'cold'......( don't expect to wak around the house in t-shirts and shorts in midwinter and be as warm as in summer!)
