Description
Welcome to our home! We are a French-Canadian family of 4 (Lorène, Brice, Gaël, and Jeanne) who have called Montreal home for nearly 17 years. We work in the NGO sector (specifically a women's health clinic) and in cybersecurity. While we don't have pets of our own, we are big animal lovers!
We live in a lovely house with a garden in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood. You will fall in love with the beautiful local architecture! It is a fantastic area with endless things to do. We are within walking distance of the famous Olympic Park and Stadium, the Biodome, the Planetarium, and the beautiful Botanical Garden. You can shop for local food at the Maisonneuve Market, swim in the outdoor pools in the summer, or even go cross-country skiing in the huge Maisonneuve Park during winter!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We want you to feel like a true local during your stay! We love exploring our vibrant Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood and regularly visit the Maisonneuve Markets. We also enjoy getting out of the city for hikes and nature walks. Back at home, you are always welcome to join us for board game nights, relaxed apéros, and local community events. We have a great relationship with our neighbors, so you will get a genuine feel for the daily rhythm and traditions of Montreal.
What we can share with you: We love hands-on projects! We can share our experience in urban ecological gardening. We are currently cultivating a 25-square-meter garden focused on biodiversity, using natural wood containers and building an herb spiral. We are also avid DIYers and are always happy to share woodworking and home-improvement tips. We can teach you how to make traditional French and Martinican dishes, completely adapted to a vegan lifestyle.
We will gladly help you practice French daily and share all our best tips for exploring Quebec.
We hope to learn new perspectives: We are always eager to discover other ways of doing things. We want to expand our horizons and practice foreign languages. Most importantly, we want to open the world to our two children by introducing them to new cultures, languages, and stories through the wonderful people we host.
Help
Around 3hours per day :
Cooking (Main Task): We need help preparing our evening meals. We are good cooks but often lack time as busy parents! We’ll provide the recipes and show you the ropes. We also have a Thermomix, making it super easy! We'd love to cook together sometimes and share our culinary skills!
Summer Gardening: Helping out in our ecological garden during the warmer months. We are environmentally friendly People, so a garden than protect the urban biodiversity is very important to us!
Light Errands & Childcare: Occasionally picking up our son, Gaël, from school or doing some grocery shopping.
(Note: No cleaning required! We have a professional cleaner who comes every two weeks).
We are a strictly vegan household, so we love sharing our food culture! My husband is French-Martinican and makes incredible vegan pastries, crêpes, and desserts : Olala!! I am a traditional French cook with a savory tooth. If you want to discover how rich and delicious plant-based cooking can be, you will love it here!

Accommodation
You will have your own private, clean, and secure bedroom with a window and a drawer in our family home. We care a lot about creating a peaceful and welcoming environment. We want you to feel completely comfortable and at home here to relax in the living room after a day of exploring or helping out. You will, of course, have access to our shared bathroom, Wi-Fi, and the laundry facilities.
How Food Works:
We will provide all your meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). We usually keep things casual. Our pantry and fridge will be fully stocked, and you are totally free to help yourself and prepare what you like. For dinner we usually gather around the table and eat our evening meal together as a family. You are always warmly invited to join us if you are not out. You are more than welcome to use our Thermomix to whip up easy meals.
