    Description

Here in the north of Germany, we are slowly building a sustainble living hub and community engagment project. We are just one family at the moment, with a loose community of friends and volunteers helping us out. In summer we are an open house with people staying and helping and lots going on! In winter it is much quieter.

We practice permaculture principles in all we do, whether thats in the garden or in our out-reach tasks connecting to the local community. Altthymen is a tiny vilage in the middle of big and peaceful nature! We are surrounded by amazing lakes, national park land and vast forests!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We create events for the local community, these range from our biannual children´s music and theater festival, to yoga weekends and spontanious get-togethers. We are happy to share our knoweldge about permaculture and event managment with you. We also love hosting people from around the world, there is always new and creative ways of doing things that we havent thought of and we love letting people play and experiment on our land! The thing people always remark on after volunteering with us, is the light-hearted approach we have to the things we do..this is probably because we are constantly having to learn and make things up as we go along!

There is always projects big and small in our house and on the land. We try to fit tasks to people´s interests and talents, so that everyone feels engaged. If possible we also like to do tasks together with you, so that we can exchange and connect. Although your very welcome to get on with things alone if you prefer!

This year we would love help with small building projects such as repointing the wall of our old and beautiful barn (we imagine this could be a fun and messy task that we all get involved with!) . We also have some wood-work projects in the barn and garden (such as building raised beds and tomatoe houses). If you have wood-working or building skills we would love to hear from you! You dont have to be a professional of course, but a spirit of creativity and learning fits to our approach!

We also have garden tasks and are happy to hear from people that want to get stuck into our permaculture garden, learn about sustainable gardening, water managment, seed harvesting etc.

We also have our biannual Children´s Festival comming up and other events creative or arty things going on, so your help preparing for those would also be appreciated . All events are non-commercial, no one earns any money but we all have a good time! Therefor you are not expected to help with paying guests or in a buisness capacity.

If your interested in joing us as we play and create on our land, get in touch!

We offer space for two people in the house (a cosy and quiet room with twin beds). In summer many people also like to camp on our meadow or in the garden, where there are amazing views. With enough notice we can also book you into our freind´s tiny house which is on the meadow. We can provide all mattresses, bedding and tents. Food is vegitarian and simple. We share 3 meals a day with you.

    What else ...

We live 1.5 hours from Berlin which is obviously attractive for many people. We ask you not to visit us only for this reason however. We dont want to host people that are only here to party and not interested in the project itself!

To reach the nearest train station you need a bike. It takes about 30 minuets. You can borrow a bike from us. There are amazing lakes and wonderful cycle routes very close by!
