need to be less demanding on our small planet. Practise recycling,composting, rejecting plastics. Learn to make do with less.
No pets but every neighbor has dogs.
This Conservation project is to regenerate local island ecosystem.

I sleep in, missing many lovely sunrises.
but when the songs of birds begin, I pop up.
I go to bed when the sunsets,but if there are star events, I am up and out!
I love tea, and can enjoy many sippings. Not a coffee habit. No smoking home.
The house is a recycled house dated 1927,with original wood from Vancouver island forest.It has a rainwater collection system and a septic field, In constant upgrading.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
As cultural exchange, a workawayer will discover the diversity of westcoast Canadian history and culture.
The host represents cultural diversity and is more than willing to teach and storytell her personal story. The home is located on a semirural island, with a wealth of natural and cultural history. The museum is on the main road, 5 minutes bike ride.
Particularly, summer, high tourist season, island culture is widely on display. Visitors are engaged. Gabriola is marketed as Art Island.
Part of the visit will provide reasons to integrate culture and land, a land ethic for the future.

Ideally, you would like to apply your skills learned through studies in botany, ecology, geography, conservation,biodiversity, related field studies and be mentored in the island biogeography and regeneration of native plants. You would be interested in earth and conservation of its biodiversity.
An original project, you would participate daily in planting, monitoring, and nuturing seeds to young plants. Observational skills would be developed and futher your abilties to record the observations.You would do detailed plant studies, use field guides,and become adept at quickly seeing plant family relationships. Daily practise with bird songs, should develop your skills with local bird vocalizations. A skill readily translatable to bird families in other geographies. Sometime will be spent,weekly touring local native habitats, to learn to distinguish ecotones, seed collection sites, as well to see local beach viewing ocean habitats, whales, marine life, and topography in sandstone bluffs,
Daily chores, weeding, watering,mulching, seedling care, as well as, help with general garden labor, water collection will
be needed.
If possible, We will work on layout and development of a brochure to initiate general interest in native plantings.Languages

A clean, warm,dry room with personal toilet. Kitchen access, home living. Best vegetarian with interest in seafood. We live on the Salish sea, organic farms abound.Nice to try making foods, yogurt, bread, etc.

Bring your laptop and computer skill and help develop brochure focused on interesting the general community about native ecology. As well to access the wealth of knowledge on natural history, hikes, beaches, music, bike routes and transportaion schedules.
The island is small , easily biked, kayaks are rentable. Access to the island is by half hour ferry trip. Again to smaller islands access by boat, many parks easily reached. For birdwatching ebird Nanaimo,inaturalist, for species data.
Musicians will note the music abounds, a note on Gabriola community will result in many responses.

Yes, you can go to the Vancouver Island Music festivals.
For deer,turkey and other island pet watching simply take a walk. Owls are about, take care, there are bears.
You will share a home, treat home life with respect and do your part, with cleaning chores.
Food is supplied, healthy fresh food. Cook as we live simply for the future planet.Lots of books, utensils and supplies, .
Conservation is practised in our community, recycling, less plastic, refuse to waste.
