Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We live very close to Galway city where many cultural activities such as traditional music and dance take place. The west of Ireland and Connamara are on your doorstep in this location. We love meeting new people and sharing good conversations and food in the evenings.
Help
We require some help making our garden and poly tunnel more productive. We would value the help of a strong volunteer who enjoys gardening, woodworking, and agriculture. Some help might involve making new vegetable beds and fencing. Some tasks can be done together but individual initiative is also desirable.

Accommodation
Our home is very comfortable and spacious. We have a cosy attic room and very large bathroom for your own use. The kitchen is open to guests and food and evening meals will be provided.
What else ...
Guests can easily cycle to Galway city from the house. There is also a bus route, with frequent buses into Galway , a twenty minute walk away .
I stayed with Tom and Katie and their two daughters for three months in early 2025. I enjoyed my stay immensely. The quantity of work expected was very reasonable, and I had plenty of spare time to play music, chat in the living room, and make friends in Galway. I spent most of my working time helping with their large garden/woodland. Tasks… read more involved chopping wood, clearing brush, stacking wood, building a footbridge, organising a shed, and helping weed their vegetable plots.
Tom and Katie are both very kind and interested people, and I became close to them over the course of my stay. Their two girls are also lovely and friendly, and fantastic violinists. Tom and Katie have both had varied and rich lives, which made for many engaged conversations. It is in large part thanks to their warmth and hospitality that I have chosen to stay in Galway and begin to build a life here. I remain in touch with the family, and I continue to visit them every couple of months to catch up.

Tara was a fantastic Workawayer. She is a lovely lady who fitted into the family very easily. She did amazing work in the garden and was extremely conscientious about applying herself to the tasks in the garden. She also helped out with cooking. Tara needed no direction at all and worked independently on the jobs set out for her. She prioritised… read more very efficiently and recognised what tasks should be completed first.
It was wonderful having Tara with us and we would welcome her back anytime.
I stayed with this family for 3 weeks. Everyone was very friendly and nice. Katie was very welcoming and inclusive, and took me into Galway a couple of times so I could explore. She was full of knowledge on Irish history and culture, and we had some good conversations.
My room was great, and I had privacy and lots of free time. The work expected… read more was gone over the first day, and then I was able to work independently.
Great family, and I really enjoyed throwing the ball for their lovely dog!
