  Welcome to our family in the rainforest of San Carlos, Costa Rica!
  
  We are a family of four and have been living on our finca in the rainforest of San Carlos for 10 years now. We built our piece of paradise from the ground up and started in 2009. I, Emiel, was born in Veldhoven the Netherlands, and ended up in this region on one of my travels. I was immediately enthusiastic about the natural beauty of the region and the way of life of the local people. My wife Regina is Costa Rican, and we now have two small children who go to school in the village of Ciudad Quesdada, near the Arenal volcano. It's a mix of cultures and customs that makes our life very diverse.
  
  Our project is so big that there is always something to do, and we still have many plans to further develop our dream. We could use some help with that.
  We have now built three houses: one where we live ourselves, another that we rent out to guests from all over the world, and a third house, our old home, which we are happy to share with volunteers who come to help us.
  We are currently busy maintaining the access road and building paved ditches with stones from the river to drain rainwater. Other daily tasks include feeding the animals and keeping the plots where the houses are located and the fruit and vegetable garden free of weeds.
  
  We are looking for volunteers who enjoy being outdoors and are not afraid to get their hands dirty, so that we can share our experiences in our beautiful surroundings with them.

  We zijn een Familie van vier en wonen al weer 10 jaar op onze in het regenwoud van San Carlos. We hebben ons stukje paradijs van de grond af opgebouwd en zijn al vanaf 2009 begonnen. Ik Emiel geboren in Veldhoven Nederland, kwam op een van mijn reizen in deze regio terecht en was eigenlijk meteen enthousiast over de natuurlijke schoonheid van de regio en over de manier van leven van de lokale mensen. Mijn vrouw Regina is Costaricaanse en inmiddels hebben we 2 kleine kinderen die in het dorp naar school gaan. Een mix dus van culturen en gebruiken wat ons leven erg divers maakt.
  
  Ons project is zo groot dat er altijd wel wat te doen is , we hebben ook nog steeds veel plannen om onze droom verder te ontwikkelen. Daarbij kunnen we wat hulp goed gebruiken.
  Inmiddels hebben we 3 huizen gebouwd , eentje waar we zelf in wonen, de andere verhuren we aan gasten van over de hele wereld en een derde huis, onze oude woning delen we graag met vrijwilligers die ons komen helpen.
  Momenteel hebben we het druk met onderhoud van de toegangsweg en zijn we met stenen uit de rivier verharde sloten aan het maken om regenwater af te voeren, verder zijn de dagelijkse werkzaamheden van het voeren van de dieren en onkruidvrij houden van de percelen waar de huizen staan.
  
  We zijn op zoek naar vrijwilligers die graag buiten zijn en werken en niet bang zijn om hun handen vies te maken om samen met hun de ervaringen die we hebben te delen in onze prachtige omgeving .

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  With our experience in the forest and our mixed backgrounds, we have a colourful mix of cultures. We love working outdoors and growing food. Fermentation is also a passion of ours. so we make our own drinks and preserve vegetables. We are also closely involved in a number of nature conservation and restoration projects in the region. Through my work for various European foundations, I also have a lot of local contact with visits to various nature reserves.

  Met onze ervaring in het bos en de gemixte achtergrond van ons beide hebben we een bonte mix van cultuur we houden van buiten werken en eten verbouwen verder is fermenteren wel een passie, zo maken we onze eigen dranken en weck-groenten verder zij we nauw betrokken bij een aantal projecten in de regio voor natuurbescherming en herstel, door mijn werk voor verschillende Europese stichtingen is er ook veel lokaal contact met bezoeken aan de verschillende Natuur reservaten.
  
  Kortom wil je leren hoe we zo duurzaam mogelijk willen leven in combinatie met het beschermen van de natuur op onze finca en in de omgeving neem dan gerust contact op.

  Help

  We are currently looking for someone who can help us weed and tidy up around the houses and also further protect the plots from erosion caused by rain. This involves digging ditches and ensuring better drainage of rainwater.
  The access road is the lifeline of our project, and we want to keep it tidy at all times, which also requires the necessary maintenance.
  We are also always building, whether it's a new chicken coop or expanding a barn, there is always plenty of work to do.
  We are therefore looking for people who are genuinely interested in what it's like to live in the jungle and what that entails, surrounded by the abundant wildlife of the rainforest.
  
  We zijn nu op zoek naar iemand die ons kan helpen met het onkruidvrij maken en opruimen rondom de huizen en ook de percelen verder te beschrmen tegen erosie door regen, dit betekent sloten graven en zorgen voor betere afvoer van regenwater.
  De toegangsweg is onze levensader van het project deze willen we ten alle tijden netjes houden ook dit vergt het nodige onderhoud.
  Ook zijn we altijd wel aan het bouwen of het nou gaat om een nieuw kippenhok of het uitbreiden van een schuur er is altijd werk genoeg.
  We zijn daarom op zoek naar mensen die echt interesse hebben in hoe het is om in de jungle te wonen en wat daar allemaal bij komt kijken omringt door het overvloedige wilde leven van het regenwoud.

  Accommodation

  The volunteer house is our old home, built in 2016, where we lived for five years before our daughter was born. It's located 300 meters from the other houses, halfway up the hill toward the gate. It's fully equipped and surrounded by fruit trees, forest, and beautiful views of the surrounding area. It has a bedroom, a kitchen, and a large terrace.
  
  Het huis voor de vrijwilligers is ons oude his gebouwd in 2016 en waar we 5 jaar gewoond hebben voor onze dochter geboren werd. Het ligt 300 meter van de andere huizen half op de berg richting de poort het is voorzien van alle gemakken en omringd door een aantal fruitbomen en bos en prachtige uitzichten van de nabije omgeving het heeft een slaapkamer keuken en een groot terras
