    Description

Remote mountain property, located on the edge of the Apuseni Natural Park at Arieșeni commune, where old ways of living with a touch of modernity can be experienced. A location where you can be with yourself, engage in the simple daily activities of rural life and help with various farming, building or animal husbandry projects.

For the last four years, I have been trying to achieve a peaceful and self-sufficient lifestyle. I do not follow any particular doctrine of living but take bits and pieces to create something that fits me, with respect for nature and common sense at the center of it.

If you want to engage in this kind of lifestyle or just observe it, you are welcome to join, even if only for a short time.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Originally, I am from Lithuania, so if you are seeking to learn or improve your Romanian language skills, I am not the right person. However, you will be able to experience Romanian culture and rural customs, as they are well preserved in the surroundings and closely observed and followed by me.

The area is perfect for hiking and trekking. With a day's hike, you can go to and come back from Bihor Peak, which is 1849 m high and is the highest in the Apuseni Mountains. Six kilometers away, there is a small skiing village, Vartop, with two great slopes during the winter. There are quite a few natural sites to visit around the area: caves, small waterfalls, ethno museums, and old churches

For me, there are many unvisited places in the area, so I will be glad to join you so we can go for hikes, treks and site visits together.

  • Help

    Help

I work daily by taking care of my animals and the property: cooking, farming, foraging, building, learning, and experimenting - these are the tasks I could use your help with. Depending on the season, your skills, and your wishes, we will figure out which jobs suit you best, and there are plenty of them: feeding and milking the cow, taking care of the goats, bees, dogs, geese, and ducks; preparing the land for planting; planting; making hay; preparing firewood and food supplies for the winter; planting trees; repairing fences; building new structures; repairing old wooden structures; and so much more.

You will have enough time to work on your own ideas and projects if you wish to do so. I can always allocate you a small piece of land where you can try to grow something or attempt to construct, with or without my help.

There are no fixed amount of hours that you need to work and no mandatory tasks. You will choose what you are comfortable working with and for how long.

Depending on the season, the days can get very busy for me, so it is not always possible for me to give too much attention to the guests if we are not engaged in joint activities. You should feel comfortable just being by yourself if you visit here; of course, you will always have plenty of animals to mingle with.

Before you come here, we must have a short video call, where we can better see the person we are dealing with, and I can give more details about it all.

People who take pictures of every meal they have and every step they take - are not welcome here.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Apart from the main house where I live and don't have guest space; there is a small wooden cabin that includes a sauna.

Normally, I use it only to store some of my stuff, overwinter my bees, and have a place for my family to sleep while visiting. The conditions are primitive: no electricity, a compost toilet, a small wooden stove, and no designated cooking area. There are 2 single beds, more can be added. Even though the cabin is insulated, it is only suitable for the warm season unless you are not picky and can sleep with your nose being cold. Cooking could be done at the main house, and depending on the situation, I could cook all the meals; it could be shared cooking or something different.

If you would enjoy the place, but the accommodation would not be up to your standards, there are places within walking distance (30-40 minutes) where you could rent more suitable accommodation for 10-20 eur/day, and you can come to my place during the day to engage in the activities you have chosen. You can use the wooden cabin as your private resting space during the day.

I will provide 2 cooked meals a day: non-vegetarian, vegetarian, or vegan. I will also make sure to provide ingredients for your own cooking. I always have my own produced dairy products, honey, vegetables (depending on the season), meats, wild berries, and mushrooms available. Once a week, we will have the opportunity to go to a small farmers' market in Arieseni village, which is 5 km away, and I will get things at your request. You can find a few small grocery stores in Arieseni, with all the essentials.
