    Description

Remote mountain property, located on the edge of the Apuseni Natural Park close to Arieșeni village, where old ways of living can be experienced. A location where you can be with yourself, engage in the simple daily activities of rural life and help with various farming, building or animal husbandry projects.

For the last four years, I have been trying to achieve a peaceful and self-sufficient lifestyle, with respect for nature and common sense at the center of it.

If you want to engage in this kind of lifestyle or just to observe it, you are welcome to join, even if only for a short time.

I do not operate any business at the property, so no business -related assistance is needed.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Originally, I am from Lithuania and could share all about it. You will be able to experience Romanian culture and rural customs, as they are well preserved in the surroundings and closely observed and followed by me.

The area is perfect for hiking and trekking. With a day's hike, you can go to and come back from Bihor Peak, which is 1849 m high and is the highest in the Apuseni Mountains. Few kilometers away, there is a small skiing village, Vartop, with two great slopes during the winter. There are quite a few sites to visit around the area: caves, small waterfalls, ethno museums and old churches.

For me, there are many unvisited places in the area, so I will be glad to join you so we can go for hikes, treks and site visits together.

  • Help

    Help

I work daily by taking care of my animals and the property: cooking, farming, foraging, building and learning - these are the tasks I could use your help with. Depending on the season, your skills, and your wishes, we will figure out which jobs suit you best, and there are plenty of them: feeding and milking the cow, taking care of the goats, bees, dogs, geese, and ducks; preparing the land for planting; planting; making hay; preparing firewood and food supplies for the winter; planting trees; repairing fences and so much more.

You will have enough time to work on your own ideas and projects if you wish to do so. I can always allocate you a small piece of land where you can try to grow something or attempt to construct, with or without my help.

There are no fixed amount of hours that you need to work and no mandatory tasks. You will choose what you are comfortable working with and for how long.

Depending on the season, the days can get very busy for me, so it is not always possible for me to give too much attention to the guests if we are not engaged in joint activities. You should feel comfortable just being by yourself if you visit here; of course, you will always have plenty of animals to mingle with.
I think, the place is more suitable for people who want peace and quiet, rather than for those who enjoy noisy and bustling places.

Before you come here, we should have a short video call, where we can better see the person we are dealing with, and I can give more details about it all.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

A small off grid wooden cabin.

Normally, I use it only to store some of my stuff, overwinter my bees, and have a place for my family to sleep while visiting. The conditions are primitive: no electricity, a compost toilet, a small wooden stove. There are 2 single beds, more can be added. Even though the cabin is insulated, it is mostly suitable for the warm season, unless you are not picky and can sleep with your nose being cold.
If the conditions might be too harsh to stay in the cabin, we will make a temporary place where you can stay in the main house.
Showering, main cooking, using internet, laundry, all can be done in the main house.
Depending on the situation, I could cook all the meals; it could be shared cooking or something different.

If you would enjoy the place, but the accommodation would not be up to your standards, there are places within walking distance (30-40 minutes) where you could rent more suitable accommodation for 10-20 eur/day, and you can come to my place during the day to engage in the activities you have chosen. You can use the wooden cabin as your private resting space during the day.

I will provide 2 cooked meals a day: non-vegetarian, vegetarian, or vegan. I will also make sure to provide ingredients for your own cooking. I always have my own produced dairy products, honey, vegetables (depending on the season), meats, wild berries, and mushrooms available. Once a week, we will have the opportunity to go to a small farmers' market in Arieseni village, which is few kilometers away, and I will get things at your request. You can find a few small grocery stores in Arieseni, with all the essentials.
