Description
So, what is it like to live with us? Our place has become a well-being retreat, a holiday location and a hop cultivating farm. We are constantly doing new self-sustaining projects, food courses, youth empowerment projects, if you’re lucky, you’ll be here when we host our own small but beautiful festivals in the summer. It’s the perfect place to explore your own mental development, learn some new skills and most importantly relax and be yourself.
The last few years on our beautiful farm here in Torrskog have been filled with wonderful people and exciting projects, experiences, successes, and fun. However, I have decided now feels like the right time to make some changes. My mum has decided to retire and so will spend this summer in one of our houses here and I will travel a bit more myself and even focus on some other projects besides our beloved farm.
So, what can you expect if you stay with us?
You will have your own cabins; you will have your own kitchen and a lot of freedom. Your "duties" will be to check the garden and the hops (not very difficult ;)) and the animals (chicken and rabbits). We would also like you to help look after and maintain the houses and help my mum if she needs some help (as I said, she has her own house and kitchen). As you can see, you will have some (minor) responsibilities, but a lot of fun and plenty of opportunities for a good time!
Each year we prepare the hop field in early summer, ready to harvest them later in the summer. Once the hops have been harvested, we will dry and package them and brew our own beer, all of which you can help with depending on when you stay.
There will also be the opportunity for some gardening, as well as some minor carpentry work. This includes taking care of the heirloom varieties, harvesting both root and stem vegetables, berry picking and other things we fancy… (Like smoking fish for the winter... ;)) Perhaps you could also chop up some logs for kindling wood.
You can also help me with any food preservation. For example, I can teach you to make your own cheese and yoghurt from raw milk, or how to dry and preserve local berries. This year for example, we have picked loads of local Rowan berries which we will dry and sweeten in honey. We can make jams, and we might pickle and preserve some of the vegetables we harvest from our own garden. I can teach you to make skin creams from beeswax and our own freshly picked flowers from the garden preserved in oil. We can go out fishing on the boat. And you can go walking and mushroom picking, learning therefore about which mushrooms are edible and tasty.
Any length of stay is helpful, so stay a few weeks or the whole summer!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Here is a list of things you might experience and enjoy whilst staying with us. However, everything you do depends on the time of year you visit, so please ask me what kind of opportunities there will be.
For example, you might:
• Learn about circle economy, sustainable living and (heirloom) food production
• Find your inner calm, build resilience, and become your most authentic self. The farm is in the heart of nature so is the perfect opportunity to escape the pressures and intensity of day-to-day life.
• Have some great parties! If you are here when we host our festival you can help me with that.
• Learn to improve your skills in cultivating things in the most natural way.
• Learn a lot about nature, medicinal herbs, and how to use them in teas, or balms and creams.
• Take a bath in the beautiful lake.
• Learn how to chop logs with a chain saw and axe!
• Take trips to the West coast and Gothenburg. Dependant on the weather, we can have all sorts of adventures.
• Take trips to the national park, Tresticklan is amazing!
• Fish in the lake, Lelång, and try some delicious fresh fish for.
• Enjoy great Scandinavian food in the outdoor kitchen or on the cast iron stove.
• Embrace some spirituality. I can teach or help you with some spiritual skills if it feels right.
• Learn about different mushrooms to pick and cook in the local environment.
• Take a trip to our sauna to enjoy the many health benefits of sauna bathing.
• Learn about a lot of things you might not even know existed… for example tobacco fermentation, craftwork, vegetable preservation, cheese and yoghurt making, bread making and lots more!Help
It would be fantastic if you had some skills or at least a feeling for gardening and carpentry.
We’d like you to be able to work independently with the other workawayers, and take on some of your own responsibilities.... however, it’s important to remember that our goal is to have fun and enjoy yourself!!!!!
The work itself is not difficult. The hop garden needs its spring preparation and summer maintenance as well as the garden. The chickens need looking after every day - even just to change their water and food and occasionally cleaning their stable. The other thing we might ask you to do is to maintain the old log-houses. This isn’t difficult if you have some basic skills in woodwork and tools. In any case, you will learn how to manage most of the tasks during the time I am on the farm site and if I am not around you can always call me and ask! So, don’t panic, it will be chilled and fun :-))
Good social interaction is important on our site. If we for any reason come across some problems, it is important that we can talk about it directly to keep an honest and harmonic balance! We want everyone to feel comfortable around each other.
The most important thing is to be sure that you love to be physically active! You will move your body a lot. Be sure that you can stay focused and remember tasks correctly! And be sure about the skills you care confident with and what you need help with, so we can do the best we can at everything!Languages spoken

There are several older buildings ("Stuga") made for separate accommodation, but bathrooms are shared by everyone. There is a shower, and a washing machine. You can also take a bath in the lake whenever you want to. It’s the perfect place to wash and relax. Breakfast and lunch you will cook for yourself, or you can help yourself to left over food. Every evening, we cook a big communal meal for everyone to come together and share time to catch up and chat. If we have completed a project, we might celebrate at home or even to the west coast for a weekend.
What else ...
In your free time, you can hike and go fishing around the corner. We also have a canoe. In a couple of hours by car you can visit Gothenburg or Oslo. In 1 hour, you can reach one of the small cities at the west coast. And 45 min away there is an amazing national park! There is also loads to do in and around the farm so you will definitely not be bored!
