    Description

We (my wife and I) run a luxury Bed & Breakfast in a small French wine village on the Canal du Midi between Narbonne and Carcassonne.
We are both British, but have lived here for 6 years and before that lived in the Caribbean. We have no children and no pets.
We are 20 minutes from the sea, can see the Pyrennees from our house, and are only an hour from Spain.
During the winter we carry our renovation, decoration, gardening and maintenance projects that we cannot do during the tourist season.

Our village is a proper working French wine village set in one of the most interesting historical areas of France. With French spoken mixed with the anciant language of Occitane, as well as the Catalan influences, and us being British, language development is a real opportunity. This area was settled by the Greeks, Narbonne was the first town built by the Romans outside of Italy (our village was originally a Roman settlement), the Visigoths were here before they sacked Rome, it was a base for the Knights Templar, you have the whole Cathar / Catholic conflict, so it is a fascinating area for linguists and historians. For artists the light here is famous, and attracted Matisse, Dali, Picasso amongst others as well as having many sites of pre historic art. If your interests are more corporeal, the food and wine is spectacular, with this area being the World's largest vineyard.

Typically we carry oury out a couple of major renovation/redecoration projects each winter, as well as ongoing maintenance. Typical works would involve renovating and repainting shutters and windows, gardening, painting and decorating. This year we have bought a large wine cave and attached small village house, which adjoin our home, so will defnitely need extra hands to help bring these back to life and incorporate into our living space. They will give us real opportunities for new ideas, such as expanding an internal courtyard into a special area, and turning the lovely old wine vats into architectural feature. The little village house is in need of a total re-imagining but could be absolutely charming.Having a creative/artistic/design aptitude therefore would be very important in all aspects of the work.
