Description
We live in a very small town, Whitevale (Lumby) BC Canada. We have 6acres and a private property 25minutes from Vernon. We are a working family with two young children. Our son is 8 and our daughter is 4. We would need help caring for the home duties such as cleaning and cooking and playing with and caring for the children when mom and dad are working. We are a very busy family who are involved in hockey and lacrosse. Our family enjoys having fires and hanging with family and friends.
My husband is 38 and I am 36. We both play hockey recreationally and lead quite busy lives. We also enjoy staying home on our property and riding dirt bikes, sledding, having get togethers with friends, going in the hot tub, cooking yummy meals and watching movies as a family.
We have one cat who is an outdoor cat but sleeps in the garage. We are non smoking and drug free and would expect the same from anyone who joins our home. We eat many varieties of food and are open to trying new things. We work early in the mornings so we like quiet evenings (as quiet as a house can be with kids 😜). We eat dinner together as much as we can, but hoping that this part will be something our new friend can help with, as we both get home from work later in the evening. The suite is furnished so you shouldn’t need too much. We live in the country, so sometimes you’ll see bears, many deer and other creatures.
If you prefer the city, unfortunately our home will not be for you.
I am a kindergarten teacher and my husband is a manager at a tire shop. I work in Armstrong which is a 45 minute commute twice daily and my husband works in Vernon which is 25 minutes twice daily.
We’d be very open to our children learning a new language and new traditions that your culture may have.
We are looking for a minimum of a 3 month stay. We feel it’s important for our children to build relationships with our workaway and believe it takes time to build these relationships. We are looking for someone who has experience with caring for children and are naturally kind, caring, helpful, patient and are willing to treat our children as if they were their own. We wouldn’t tolerate any abuse, violence or vulgar behaviour towards our children or any of our family members. We will treat you in the same manner 😀
Our children do fight with one another but when occupied with games, sports, art, baking etc… they tend to get a long and enjoy each other’s company.
We have a space to create arts and crafts, I just don’t have as much time to this as much as I’d like. I have a sewing machine and would love to create some sewing projects if this is something you can help teach me about!
We have wifi internet and cable tv. Your room has a private bathroom, kitchen and small living room area.

We are located in the Okanagan. We are close to many lakes and you’d have plenty of opportunities to be in nature. Our area is known for their beautiful beaches and camping areas. We live in a very safe small town that loves hockey, baseball and lacrosse. I believe there are other families in Lumby that are hosting other workaways as well. Maybe there would be opportunities to meet with those families as well!

Help
We would need help caring for the home duties such as cleaning and cooking and playing with and caring for the children when mom and dad are working. We hope whomever this person is, will learn to love our family and will carry on a long term relationship. We hope that our children will have the opportunity to learn about different cultures.
Because we both work and usually are arriving home around 5-7pm, we are hoping for someone that can prepare dinners and keep the house clean. We also would like for our children to be entertained when we are busy with work engagements. We do have full time daycare, but there are certain times where we would need a bit more child care support.

Accommodation
We have a private one bedroom suite in our home. We could host two people if they are friends and don’t mind sharing a room together. This suite has its own door to outside, but would be a shared laundry upstairs with our family. Suite is equipped with a queen bed, closet, full kitchen but no dishwasher, sofa, large window and private bathroom. Tv with internet and cable. Bedding, towels etc. all included.
What else ...
When you have free time you may explore all there is to offer in Lumby such as hiking Camels Hump, walking the rail trail, get a fancy milk shake from the Snac Shac, go out with family and friends at the family friendly local pub the Blue Ox. You may enjoy watching the new senior Mens hockey team on the weekend, or accompany our family to one of our sons hockey or lacrosse games. We have an outdoor swimming pool that is open in the summer. You can catch a bus into Vernon and go shopping at the Village Green Mall, go to Starbucks for a coffee or hit up one of the many beautiful beaches. There is a lot to do, but keeping in mind that both Lumby and Vernon are not super busy large cities.
