I spent one month at Nicola's Farm. Mostly I picked carobs, which is not so easy as it looks like. Portugal and the silence of the farm brought something like harmony and rhythm in my own life.

I spent eight weeks at Nicola & Steve's homestead. It was a bumper crop so Nicola and I spent nearly all that time collecting carobs from under the tree plantation then bagging them up.
It was pretty hot most of that time so an early start each day was essential. Like Nicola says, it requires someone of a contemplative nature to pick for that

They are very sociable people and I quickly felt part of the family. I enjoyed my many varied chats with Steve about all manner of subjects during mealtimes. The range of meals cooked by both of them was also appreciated greatly - it never got boring. Nicola is more focused on the kids. We stayed about 3 weeks at Nicolas house and had a great time there. We picked Carobs, chopped wood and helped in the garden. The work was not to hard neigher to much. She showed us that she appreciates our work. The food was good. Including we tryed scottish food and exotic fruits that grow in the garden. In our free time we went to Portimão and

Although we slept in the caravan, we did spend time with the family. We liked playing with the kids and the dog. Sometimes we were sitting around the fire and had a good conversation with Nicola. Due to we felt very good there, we recommend to visit her and the family. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
