  • Description

We are developing an ecotourism cultural center and hostal/camping area on riverfront in Rio Ancho in the department of the Guajira, Colombia. If you would like to be a part we need landscapers, and construction helpers and life skills teachers. Casa Brujula is all volunteer built, we have had over 30 volunteers and 10 countries represented in our project to date.

We offer lodging on site in exchange for 3-4 hours of help daily. Please dedicate a week minimum and expect two days off weekly. Please come with the intention to benefit the local community in some way.

Rio Ancho is a day trip from multiple beaches including Palomino, Sierra Nevada, waterfalls, the city of Santa Marta and the mountain to Minca. Cabo de La Vela is also a must see when you come to the Caribbean coast of Colombia.

Adventure awaits. Come join the team.
There is no new territory inside your comfort zone!

This spring we are finishing the private rooms, adding a kitchen as well as two outdoor showers and baths. Working with bamboo, pine, river rocks and sacred geometry.

Opportunity to develop Spanish with locals, indigenous villages of three distinct razas call these mountains home. There is a casa indigenous in Rio Ancho that we plan to paint and restore as our elected community project. We will need an artist to paint a mural when we are done cleaning. We can be your safe place to land for more adventures on the coast of Colombia!

We are hoping to start a music school with the local children so bring an instrument to donate to the project if you can. We are teaching life skills to one of the poorest regions of Colombia, please come inspired to lead your own class if you have an applicable skill, no official training required; only the desire to serve and learn.

Please understand that there is political unrest in Colombia. Please understand that we are an hour from the Venezuela border. Please use caution and discretion when traveling and living in territory that was a major drug export zone in the last decade. Please do not be surprised if we extend extra caution. Your well being while on the project is important to us. If you do not feel safe for any reason, you are free to move forward to less rugged zones and more heavily populated areas.

We can't wait to welcome you to the compass team!
