    Description

We are a non-profit focused on art, history and sustainability, located on an old family homestead in downeast Maine. The land was once a thriving quarry site providing granite for the cobblestone industry that would be shipped away on wooden ships in the 1800's. We strive to help create connections to both the natural world and the historic uses of the land. We also operate a public gallery and sculpture garden. We function by form and design of integrating standard business models with expansive and creative community involvement. We host various events throughout the year including planting parties, mushroom inoculations, feasts, and art openings. We also bring people together to build new structures and learn new skills.

When you stay here there are great opportunities to reconnect with nature. There are many learning, recreation, and self development opportunities here to get hands-on experience with. You could spend your free time biking, hiking, boating, alternative building, cooking or learning about how to power a truck with vegetable oil . There is a pristine quarry pool for swimming and paddle boarding.

We are looking forward to sharing this place with like minded folks.

Anyone who comes for a short visit or a long term stay will agree that the serenity and natural beauty lends itself to intrinsic healing. Our location is central to the Acadia National Park region in Northeastern Maine. We are only 20 minutes drive from surburban shopping and a trendy town that features micro-breweries and art galleries. As well, we are only 40 minutes from Mount Desert Island (home to the famous town of Bar Harbor) where there is a host of small, artistic towns waiting to be explored, not to mention the huge network of trails in Acadia National Park. The surrounding neighborhood and 100 mile radius offers many options. We are 1 1/2hrs. from Canada and there are 100's of miles of pristine coastline to be explored.

Be prepared to meet a wide cultural variety of folks if you are coming in the summer. We get visitors from all over the world and many of the visitors seasonally work at the local world-famous blueberry fields.

For food we offer the bulk staples such as dried beans, grains, and produce from garden and there is a shared kitchen in which guests can cook private or shared meals.

We’re looking for team members who are self-motivated and can work independently to help further develop our garden and community programs. You will be working on your own for most of the time in the garden and around the land. We are open to new ideas and love those who are eager to learn with us!

Having your own transportation is recommended as we’re on a rural back road. Group trips into town are possible. Help wanted May through October.
