    Description

We are a friendly family of five, looking for people to come and join us in restoring our beautiful farmhouse. The house is from 1928 and is located in Vålse, in the beautiful southern part of Denmark. We will be three generations taking vacation time for this project, and would love to share it with you. Four of us have had great adventures as work aways, and we are now looking forward to being a host ourselves.

We need self-motivated and committed helpers with practical skills to help take care of the renovation work in the house and other important tasks. You will be working along side us and other family members. Our goal is to renovate the house in respect of the old crafting tradition.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

In our family you can learn about the Danish culture of hygge and the Danish/ Scandinavian society and way of life. You get an insight into our family's lives, norms, values and traditions.

We enjoy meeting with people, talk about world views and cultural experiences. We have an open mind and enjoy talking about culture, politics and social issues, which means you can ask about anything.

We eat a wholesome foods with lots of vegetables and legumes. We eat only little meat. It is absolutely possible to stay with us and be vegetarian, although we are not ourselves.

    Help

You will be helping along side us and other family members. Most work is indoors. Your tasks might include removing wallpaper, plaster walls, painting, woodwork, renovate kitchen, other smaller house renovating projects, remove waste, repair bicycles.

If you enjoy cooking, it could also be a task to prepare meals.

We help each other in meal preparation and cleanup, including routine cleaning of communal spaces.

We strive to be environmentally friendly in any way we can, this includes sorting our waste, taking short showers and not to waste energy wherever possible. Please be willing to take part in this.

    Accommodation

The house is located in the country side in a walking distance from the water. The water is shallow but is still good for a fresh morning dip. This idyllic setting offers lots of peace and quiet surroundings. The area has no light or sound saturation so at night the sky is light up with stars.

The house is in the early state of being renovated and will appear raw, with old facilities and old wallpaper and carpets, but you can easily live here, and we will do our best to make you feel comfortable. We have a few small rooms. A room will be shared by 2 workaways – or it will be your room alone, if we end up with just one helper. A couple or two friends could be a good idea.

We will be staying in the house as well and we will share bathroom, common rooms and kitchen.

    What else ...

We love company of other people and enjoy having visitors. We invite helpers to stay and work with us. If all goes well, we would be happy to offer extended hosting with two nights in our home in Copenhagen, provided both parties are interested. This way we can work concentrated the first period of time, and extend with a few days where you do not work, but have the opportunity to stay with us in Copenhagen for you to explore the city. In Copenhagen, you will borrow one of the children’s rooms. And we share facilities.
